First Shoot Next Weekend and having trouble with sights.

Hi All,
My family is preparing for our first Appleseed shoot next weekend.  I have 4 Ruger 10/22's I have set up with everything needed for the shoot based on recommendations I have seen.  3 of the rifles are zeroed in at 25 meters and are fine.  The fourth rifle is zeroed in as well, but the windage adjust is about 25% from the left instead of being closer to center.  When set to the left I can shoot a nice tight group but I would prefer to be closer to center.  All 4 rifles are fitted with Tech-Sights, the version with windage only.  I "thought" I installed all four sets the same, but something is different.  My first thought is that my front sight is to one side more than centered, but from running my finger across the dovetail joint of the sight to the barrel it feels flush.  This is a new rifle and the factory front sight came out with slight force, not enough to distort the barrel.  Any thought from you vets, would be appreciated.
Thanks,
David

My thought is that if you can get it sighted in correctly, "Who cares how much you have left?"  But I do understand your concern.  It just doesn't seem right, does it?  Let's see what some others have to say....

Glad you are bringing the family.  I love seeing families on the line together.

Have a great shoot!

When looking down on the rear sight are the screws centered? Sometimes the screw holes in the sight are wider than the screw.

Next thing is the barrel needs to be aligned so that the extractor is centered in the extractor groove? You might not notice this being slightly off as the factory rear sight is on the barrel as well as the front sight.

Also the Tech Sights are adjustable for elevation. You need a tool and you raise or lower the front sight post. Best to buy the tool, but a small punch will work.

Betcha that's it, seen it more that once. You can twist that barrel a good 10-20 degrees within the extractor grove, I wouldn't count on it being in the right spot either. Block it up in a vice and eyeball it. One of mine was this way and it showed itself when zeroed at 25, needing windage adjustments at 100 and if adjusted at 100, it was off at 25....O.L.

Thanks for the quick responses.  I did purchase a sight tool to adjust the front to bring in my elevation.
One thing that got me thinking after reading your comments.  Is the barrell rotation.  This 10/22 is
a takedown model.  With the sights both front and rear normally being on the barrell could this be
the issue?  One of the other rifles is a takedown as well but no issues.

As I haven't bought a take down yet, heck I haven't even shot one, just played with it at the NRA convention last year, the following is a guess:

Make sure the barrel tensioning nut is set to firmly press on the barrel giving a BIT, not a hugh amount of resistance when installing the barrel.

oladcock, think this is on target?

I found the problem.  It is the barrel rotation.  When looking down the barrel I can know see that the front sight hood is at a slight rotation to the left in relation to the rear sight hood.  The slight rotation to the left could only bring the rifle on target when the rear was compensated to the left.  So I assume this is something to consider when purchasing the take-down version.  If using the factory sights which are on the barrel, you wouldn't notice the rotation.  When using a scope the rotation wouldn't have mattered either.  Even though I am more to the left than norm.  I am zeroed in and not going to worry about adjustments until after the shoot.

Thank you gentleman.  Looking forward to our first but not last Appleseed next weekend in Manchester Tennessee

Even on the fixed barreled rifles I would say most of the Techsites I have seen have had the rear sight closer to the left side.  As long as you have it sighted in I would run with it.

Looking forward to hearing reviews or you experience with the takedown rifle.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

Good deal, no, never messed with the TD's yet, seen this on the normal 10-22's, the barrel twisted in relation to the receiver, with the rear sight mounted on the receiver, front sight on the barrel, if they are rotated in relation to each other it'll cause problem if you vary the distance especially. Big thing is, get it zeroed for 25M and don't mess with it till afterwards! :)......O.L.

The new Rugger 10/22's right outta the box,
I have noticed the front sights are sometimes stuck with burrs around the edges and will not easily drift.
I tell even my most experinced instructors if you don't want to buy that rifle explain this to the owner then have them do a hold over until they can get it home and work with it!
