Saturday was the start of a glorious weekend at Appleseed in Sacramento. And no, not because of the cold, soggy weather, but for the 15 people who came out to learn Marksmanship and American heritage. First, as always we went through the safety briefing and then poured on the knowledge at about the same rate as the downpour.

At noon we broke for lunch, 3 strikes were told, and the instructors did an excellent job proceeding though the course of fire.

And just when I thought this weather couldn't get any worse, it didn't.

The perseverance the students displayed paid off with the some sun and blues skies appearing in the afternoon. Two AQTs were shot and we discovered There were some amongst them who knew very well what they were about. Steve posted a 211 on his first AQT and to prove it wasn't a fluke he backed it up with a score of 225. Also, Michael first scored a 212, and not to be outdone by his first AQT he then proceeded to post a 216.

Despite the wretched weather, 6 youth displayed outstanding attitudes and were awarded the young patriots patch.

And before wrapping up  for the day, I had the privilege of awarding Pinbreaker his well earned red hat!!!
Not a bad first day of Shoot-bossing eh?

On Sunday, 6 shooters returned. Safety and marksmanship instruction were reviewed, and the AQT grind commenced.

Fearing another baptism from the waters of the north bridge from last month John posted a score of 220.
Nitin came down from the bay area in search of his rifleman's patch. He found his bubble and knocked off a score of 213. Apparently he stayed in his bubble as his following scores on the AQT were 216, 221, 220, and 222.

AQTs were churning, scores were getting higher, and then I must have been struck with a temporary case of dyslexia thinking the last shots on the range were at 4:30p, but range officers kindly informed me it was 3:40p. So unfortunately, the shooting stopped mid AQT and the afternoon red coats were saved for the day (this must have been how Tim Pickering must have felt that April 19th).  :slap:

In closing I would like to thank all the attendees and hope to see those knocking on the rifleman's doorstep back again.
And to the instructors, all of you did a STUPENDOUS job this weekend, thank you very much!!

Congrats to Nitin!   We knew you could do it!   Way to persevere!  We hope to see you (and the hat) on our lines again!

Looks like the weather in Sac was more of what we had up in Red Bluff.  At least you don't have cow pies on the range!

Thanks to all the shooters and instructis for making it the excellent weekend it was despite the weather! Congrats to the new riflemen and Pinbreaker for acquiring the red hat, you all truly earned it. And a big thanks to Lagboy for running this shoot and making it possible.

Hey Tim,
Did you guys have any cover at your shoot up in Red Bluff?  The wind at Sac Valley was so bad it prevented us from being able to put up any of the shelters... we were like ducks in a pond out there.  The photos didn't even capture the rain, since the camera could only come out after the rain stopped.   :-\

Regarding Red Bluff:

Yes, our line is covered, the foundation is concrete, and our chairs and gear are under 4 easy ups.
Lunch is indoors with a wood stove.
And we did AQT's out to 400 yards.

Considering those advantages I don't think a few cowpies are a problem :)
Old Guy:  Do it long enough and you get really good at it.

Rifleman:  Sacramento:  Four Ought Nine
Full Distance:  Red Bluff:  What year was that?
Pistoleerâ„¢:  Hat Creek:  Three Twenty One

Make yourselves good scouts and good rifle shots in order to protect the women and children of your country if it should ever become necessary.
