I have built a portable 'sight-in' bench and recorded it on video. The bench is CHEAP (<$20 for materials) and can be carried by one person. It can also be broken into two parts for two younger persons to carry if needed. It is primarily made from wood so building it requires SOME basic woodworking skills (cutting and drilling) but nothing really exotic. Where should something like this be posted?

Note: The video is on YouTube and open to the public. I also have a link to it from my website.

Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

Its a 'sight-in' bench. Like you might see at a shooting range only portable. Used when you need a really stable firing position.

Some of us are a bit more mature (read that as "OLD!") and getting into a prone position is not as easy as it used to be. (And getting UP .... well, lets just say that is a major production.)

Just go ahead and post it here.  I could definitely benefit from something like that.   O0

Who shoots from a bench?
I do when I am dialing in a new scope, etc.  I shoot for fun and hunting in areas which are very wet at times and uneven terrain.  It does no good to get in the prone position if the grass is two feet tall, the mud is 8" deep, etc..    :cool2:

Who shoots from a bench?

Actually many, many Appleseeders do:  http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=265.0
Since time eventually claims us all, chances are that someday you'll need to adapt as well.

I guess I'll put it here and let everyone re-post elsewhere if they deem that necessary.

It's always fun when you get a new rifle and take it out for the first time to sight it in. Some of us are lucky enough to have shooting ranges nearby with permanent benches. For those of us who are NOT so lucky, here is a design that won't break the bank and is portable. If you can find some open space (like that pasture in the lower forty acres) with a good backstop, you are good to go.

You will need some tools (a saw, a drill, some bits, etc.) The video is accelerated during some of the scenes and it does NOT show all of the steps necessary for construction but there should be enough information if you have some basic woodworking skills. There is a drawing available on my website for download or printing.

Feedback is welcome (even criticism) and in fact desired. I'll give you two ways to view it.
1. You can search YouTube. Use the title "PSB_V2" and you should be able to find it.
2. You can go to my website.  [http://www.larovideo.com/Sample_Videos]

I think this should go in the Adaptive Appleseed forum:
Since this isn't intended as an adaptive method to shoot an Appleseed but as a benefit to all when not shooting at an Appleseed, it makes sense to be here.

Why don't you build them to order and sell them.

Figure our your costs, labor, shipping, etc. and come up with a price.  Post them under deals and steals - http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?board=19.0

Might as well make a little cash with a worthwhile hobby while providing a useful product that somebody might buy.

Good luck, sir!
"Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast and that the once-happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by a race of slaves.  Sad alternative!  But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?" - George Washington - from a letter to a close friend after the events of April 19, 1775

"There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our (the United States) overthrow.  Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter.  From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger.  I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." - Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

I appreciate your suggestion, Mr. Martin, however my intention was to share. Part of the joy I received was the satisfaction of building this myself and I expect that others would feel the same way. In addition, the weight would make shipping to ANYWHERE more expensive than the cost of materials at your local chain store. (I cannot compete with Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)
Hopefully, you and others will enjoy viewing the video and maybe building something similar for yourselves. I think it would be an excellent project for father and son OR daughter. Maybe even mom would join in the fun, at least when the bench is used for sighting in the family .22 caliber rifle.

To the other posters: Thanks for the feedback and I would LOVE to see your bench if you make one.

No Problem, Stand. [If I had never done anything wrong, I might be inclined to criticize. However, since that is NOT the case ....   ;)]
