Haha, yeah I normally run a 2 point sling, but was just trying out the single point on a heavier rifle when I took the pic. As far as the bipod goes, as good as shooting with just the support of your body is I like to cheat a bit hunting.  :)

No it really isn't very common, but that wasn't me. I wish I was in FL last Summer however.

How do you like the atlas? I have both Harris and a crappy Blackhawk right now, was thinking about investing in an atlas.

I love it. Totally blows my Harris stuff out of the water. I went with the one with the American Defense mount (LW-17) and am glad I did. I do a lot of coyote and varmint hunting, and wanted something that would adapt to any ground contour. It's a lot of money, but the quality is excellent.

Nice, I'm glad to hear you like it, my next project for my rifle is an adjustable comb, looks like I'm putting a picitinny bipod rail on as well now.

I did a lot of looking into this topic myself recently, and the only one I came up with that satisfied my requirements (short of a custom job) is the Armalite AR-10, since it is the only one I could get that has a 20", chrome lined, lighter-profile barrel.  Plus Armalite has been in the .308 AR game longer than most (since the early '90s or so), and by now they have a pretty well-refined product that, according to many who have run it hard, is quite reliable.

It seems like all the other vendors are stuck on either short carbine barrels, or big fat heavy target barrels.  For something that I plan on using at distance, I want AT LEAST 18", but for a battle rifle I want it light enough to hump through the country.  I prefer the 22" of my M1A, but an AR platform is prohibitively heavy for field use with that length.

For now I am just "making do" with my good old M1A.  ;)  A 2 MOA rifle still gets me hits out past 700 yards if I make a good call on range and wind.  Works fine for me.  If I need better than that, I go to a bolt gun.  But I have to say, the AR has certain advantages over the old M1A... namely accuracy, ease of mounting optics, modularity, and they are much easier to swap barrels and bolts on in the field with limited tools (no need to lap or ream to get headspace with the AR design).
"Of liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its extent, it is unobstructed action according to our will. But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual."
