Lord make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true, and my hands faster than those who would seek to destroy me.  Grant me victory over my foes, and those  that wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be if I only had my Gun; and loard if today is truly the day that you take me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass.

which hole in my  magpul aperture sight  when firing at AS 25mt course big or little

SSG Platz

The small hole is the default hole if you want to call it that, the large hole is for low light/no light and wearing a gas mask.

Keep in mind that 62-grain military ammunition has to abide by the Geneva Convention.

There are many civilian rounds in both .223 and 5.56 designed for hunting and self defense that will far outperform standard military ammo in terms of raw stopping/killing power in any justifiable home defense scenario. Hornady's TAP is an example of a line of HP and polymer-tipped bullets designed for this very purpose, while the old 55-grain FMJ without the penetrator of the military round also tends to fragment well.

For those of us who don't live in rural areas, also keep in mind that anything other than the military penetrator round will tend to penetrate LESS through multiple layers of building materials than either buckshot or slugs in a shotgun, or many centerfire pistol rounds because the lower mass of the 223/5.56 sheds energy faster.

The Box of Truth has some interesting comparisons of bullet penetration in building materials. http://www.theboxotruth.com/

Ok, I read your artical and I will start out by saying this...

I was a police officer in NJ for two years, I have been in the military between active duty and National guard for 12, and have 3 deployments under my belt. I don't say this because I like to brag, infact I think this is the first time I have ever brought this up on the board, I only say this so you understand I know what I am saying.

Stopping power and killing power are the same thing, one is just polically correct and the other is not. That's why we shoot to stop the threat (Kill) not immobilize or scare off, we say stop because it sounds nicer than kill, and with the extramly Letigous nature of our country today wording is what it is. Two Frangable rounds are crap, and I will leave it at that. Do some indipendent research on terminal balistics, don't just believe what peoe tell you. 3, when it comes to 62 grain 556 rounds I've seen people shot multipul time with both M4's and SAW's and continue to fight until either hit in the head, heart, or blead out. Now the MK262 those are a compleatly different story. Those I've seen targets engaged out to 800 meters and dropped like sacks of potatoes, but that is also surgical shooting as well, but they do make big holes in people. On this same note I have also watched 9mm rounds bounce off the windshield of a car, so I carry a .45/.44mag, IDE carry a 50/500 if I could find one small enough I could conseal. I do agree with the overall over penitration factor of anything you are using. I, and this is just my openion, feel that something that is moving at say 1,000 fps for example a .45 is not going to travel as far as say a 5.56 moving at 2,700 Fps like a Mk262mod 1 which work really well for QCB as well as long range. Now feel free to agree or disagree with anything I say, but keep in mind where you got the information that you drew your conclusions from and where I got mine.

Interesting article on using an AR for home defense:

Many people make the mistake of thinking that the Geneva Convention outlaws hollow point ammunition which infact it does not. It is actually The Hague Convention of 1899, Declaration III, prohibited the use in international warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body. But you are correct that NATO members do not use small arms ammunition that is prohibited by the Hague Convention.
If you can find it I would suggest something like Mk262 mod 1 it's a77gr OTM that the military has been using for some time now, at first for snipers and squad designated marksman, but have recently found out it works really well in short barrel carbines as well providing fantastic terminal performance.

On the topic of Dissipator AR's...

Sling tension and POI shift, particularly with thinner profile barrels, was of concern with my AR... so I ended up installing a Windham Weaponry rifle length free float tube which includes a front sling stud.  With shipping it was like $85 from their webstore and installing it on the PSA Dissipator upper wasn't a horrible chore if you have the tools, driving the retaining pins out of the front sight tower was the worst part (the $2 nail punch sets from Lowes work great).

The end result turned out nicely, I was out ringing the gong with it at the farm this weekend (5" plate at 125 yards) using a mixed lot of surplus 55 grain with headstamps from '88 through 03 and it did fine when I did my part.
