love the big bang. Yes a live round works great, got my new sight post, took the old one off was a 4 prong, so I had the tool the new one was 5 prong then I recalled that I had a battle rifle and you can use a round to work on it had the new post on in 2 minutes. About what rifle to buy, I bought a S&W MP 15 for $650 and been to a few AS's several thousand rounds all different mags NEVER misfired or jammed only problems were operator error, love the BAD lever. got 10 round mags for prone, pmag and metal ones all work great the plastic ones are a little easier on pruny sweaty hands in FL

You will find 75% if not more of your malfunctions with an AR will be caused by bad magazines, or slims ammo.

I like the 15-22 because all the bells and whistles are the same. The bolt lock to the rear unlike the colt, and all the buttons do what they are suppose to do, unlike the colt. Yah it's made out of plastic, but your only shooting 22 LR from it. As a training rifle I don't think it can be beat. Especially if you one one of its brig brothers, any AR variant. I don't like spending 35 cents a round for 5.56, or 65 cents a round for 308 to shoot it at 25, or even 100 yards. That's why I own .22's. Even if I only paired 23 cents a round I would still rather pay 6 cents. The fundamentals are the same no matter the caliber. All I can say is there is a reason why I can put rounds though the same hole consistently. It's because I train with a .22 and it allows me to shoot 100s and 1000s of rounds a month without going broke. Granted, most of it is just raw natural talent, but a lot of it is perfect practice makes perfect.

Lord make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true, and my hands faster than those who would seek to destroy me.  Grant me victory over my foes, and those  that wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be if I only had my Gun; and loard if today is truly the day that you take me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass.

I have an Olympic Arms,
This is the bottom of the barrel, however I'm not sure if I got a cherry or If they are all as dependable.
Right outta the box you say, Here here,It will eat anything you feed it!
I would defiantly get a 20" barrel if possible the extra length for sight radius.
