Had a nasty glare today...haven't been careful carrying my rifle around the house and have some bright marks on my sights.

How do you blacken your tech sites?
I don't want to melt it...

Thanks
Dude

They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

Sounds like New Englanders to me.

Not exactly non-reflective, but it's always worked for me:

Yup, for a permanent fix, paint them or use cold blue. For a semi-permanent fix, use the Sharpie (which I do). For use at an event to truly blacken them (no glare) use the sight black.

FWIW, I rarely to never use sight black when I shoot with irons.

I use a bic lighter and a piece of plastic to "soot" the front sight post and it stays on there till you rub it off. I have not seen anything darker.

Not to worry, with age comes the respect of respectful youth.
Hence this is my preferred means of blackening.
I wouldn't recommend using a torch lighter, though.
Don't know if it'd even work, but I'd hate to see someone melt their front sight!

I might feel bad for them once I stopped laughing long enough to catch my breath.  **)

I think you'll find the Tech Sight front sight post is steel (and, AR parts work if you need replacements).

Now, I'm going to date myself.

I remember using a Zippo lighter to blacken sights.

Put a little diesel in it, and then lighter fluid (used to use gasoline instead of lighter fluid when we had to, not recommended), then light it and hold far enough away from the sights to get them in the soot.

That's circa 72-74.

I tried the burning plastic spoon method (hold your breath and don't hold the spoon over your legs!!).
It worked.
Definitely more non-reflective than paint (I found a Birchwood Casey Flat Black Paint pen in my closet).

Glad to hear it worked for ya. I like the simple cheap effective things in life. I am sure there is a marriage joke in there somewhere  **)

I use regular masking tape it soots very well and cheap.

That sounds less messy and less toxic too.
And I always have some in my range bag.

Thanks
