From the article in the Korea Times:
"Washington has agreed to allow the importation of M1 Garand rifles from Seoul, reversing its earlier decision to ban the shipping of the weapon used by South Korean and U.S. soldiers during the 1950-53 Korean War, a senior defense official said Wednesday."

These are earmarked for Korean War Veterans and their families.  If you know someone who might be eligible, please encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity.

I posted this on the CMP forum thinking it was some good news but, in reading between the lines it still may not happen . Garands for $220 ? My understanding is that most of the rifles are in poor shape and some are like new( held in reserve for the big one).

86k Garands?   700 (!!!)k carbines?  Yikes.
Would think the CMP would be all over this, as is main way they support themselves.
As long as we're feeding the rumor mill, have also heard from usually-reliable source that CMP about to come into
very significant supply of .308 ammunition.  This rumor supported by CMP themselves LISTING .308 ammo, which they have never listed before, in their 2012 catalog (available for the asking...sent me two CASES for use @ shoots and gun shows).
And, to drive everyone nuts, DCM used to GIVE carbines to scholastic clubs and teams for FREE if a specoific training plan involving carbines was written up and submitted to them.  My team had 12 (!) carbines; great way to blow off the single-shot Anschutz vs. A36 three-position target cobwebs away.  What's worse, also received free .30 carbine ammo, picked up annually (along with the .22 ammo allocation) at Seneca Military Depot in Romulus, NY.

Probably the number that Korea expects to get for them. Triple it with import fees, shipping, etc.  Buy a CMP rifle instead. EOS.
