The CZ 452 Military Trainer rifle almost meets the ideal of an Appleseed off-the-shelf rack-grade service rifle in an affordable 22LR package, requiring almost no user modifications.  Unfortunately, it is being discontinued in 2012, so there is not much time left to buy one.

"It is an uphill struggle, but I wish that we could distinguish more carefully between freedom and liberty. These conditions are not the same, though they are certainly related. Freedom is the absence of restraint - a physical circumstance. Liberty, on the other hand, is a political situation denoting the lawful capability of the citizen to defend himself and his near and dear without interference from the state. Note that the Declaration of Independence forcibly and particularly establishes the blessings of liberty upon ourselves and our posterity. I like to carry a pocket copy of the Declaration, plus the Constitution, in my travels. It is a good thing to have in hand when discussions arise."

My CZ rifles have been very well made and very accurate.  Have not met the Military Trainer except on line but expect it too would be a solid investment.

That sounds great. The only improvement I can think of would be a longer sight radius. Unless, of course, you are planning on using a scope.

I just picked up one of the bad boys at Davidson's. They've got 4 left as of posting time.

Had a shooter fire a rifleman score with one last year or the year before, so they will work fine.  Neat little rifle.

My first rifleman score was with my CZ 452 with a scope. Excellent rifle, very accurate.

The CZ452 is a great rig. I've got one in American Hunter & mil trainer configuration.
The mil trainer rifle sights leave a little to be desired for a go to AQT rifle though it can be done.
I came across & ordered tech-sights for mine last night.
I'm looking forward to hitting the range with them.

I love my Trainer model. I put Tech-Sights on it and love it even more. I have not shot Rifleman with it yet (209!!), but will this year.  O0 This thing has the smoothest bolt I've ever felt and is very accurate. Actually, I'm very interested in putting a scope on it and seeing what I can do with it off of a rest.

We will be hosting an Appleseed at our club in July. I've been looking for a 10-22 but just ran across a CZ 452 at a very reasonable price just before perusing this site. I may have found just what I needed.

The rifle is 10 years old. I see Tech Sites are available. Is it possible/probable a little trigger work might be needed?

CZ makes a fine rifle.  Wouldn't expect it to need a trigger job.  It will not disappoint.

CZ + reasonable price = buy it, quick.

What about a CZ - 453 22LR - w/ Set Trigger? The CZ 452 is all ready gone. :(

If the price is right get it quick.  The CZ I have held have all been exceptional and if the price is right and you don't like it for some reason you shouldn't have any problem selling it for what you have in it.

A bolt gun is not a hindrance on the AQT if you know the gun and the Course of Fire well.

If you like the way the rifle feels get it.  It is a personal choice.  I can't remember hearing anyone really bad mouth a CZ but I'm sure someone has.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

buy it, the 453 variant is  uncommon, and you will love shooting it

Anybody have experience with the sights (specifically looking at picking up one with the full-length "Mannlicher" stock)?  I find a lot a lot of companies (more than just CZ) don't like to clarify past "fixed" or "adjustable" when it comes to iron sights...

floydf

I have a couple of the 452 trainers, and  like the open sights as well as tech sight apertures.  They seem to look similar to those seen on a Mosin Nagant, or similar milsurp bolt rifle.  I like 'em a lot; for me they shoot well.

I had to take the time to check My 452FS (Mannlicher) in .22WMR.  It has adjustments for range and windage on the rear sight.  As I recall there is a limit to the front sight post but it can move a small amount.  The rnage adjustmant might just be a .22WMR thing or might be standard on a .22LR.

I had to check it because with my older eyes, it got a scope immediately upon purchase.
