Hello,

Has anyone heard of Plum Crazy Firearms?  They are made in AZ.  I'm looking for a cheap centerfire for IBC.

Thanks

Keep your expectations in check, and don't buttstroke anything with it or drop it in a way that stresses the buffer tube threading on the receiver.

I have one... but... I bought it with the intent of it serving as a base for a CMMG .22LR upper.

I may snatch up a lightweight carbine upper to keep in a corner and turn the .22 into a centerfire if needed and I can find one for cheap.  But it isn't going to be regarded as 1st tier gear like my M14 or AR-15 A2.

I bought my PC for $125 at a local gun store, complete with 6 position M4 buttstock and all LPK components.  That same day I also bought a CMMG with 6 position M4 buttstock and all LPK components for $199.

I say... if the cost differential between a PC lower and any of the multitude of good stripped lowers out there is affecting your purchasing decision, you're haggling over less than 200 rounds of ammo.  Not worth it.  Go get yourself a CMMG, Sun Devil or some other stripped lower and a DPMS lower parts kit, call it good.

There are enough PC's that have cracked at either the buffer tube threads, or the rear take-down pin from improper dimensions or too tight/loose of a fit, that I don't think it's a good risk for a centerfire upper.

I've been looking into building an AR for quite some time. Here's the company I have more or less decided on: http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/AR-15-lowe-receivers.php The lowers are 79.99 now, but will come on sale for 49.99 shortly.

With one of the complete rifle kits here: http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/AR-rifle-kits.php you can have a decently priced, completely mil-spec, Ar-15.

You can also get a complete mil-spec rifle for $600 (minus rear sight) elsewhere on the site.

I was warned off composite lowers and told to get aluminum or steel

Have you considered the S&W M&P 15 ?

locally, $600 plus tax  -  you can't build one that cheap

FWIW, the major components are supposed to be built by Stag Arms

Roland

Is that the cheap M&P Sport for 600$? I've never seen any other S&W AR for that cheap.

^^^^^^

This.

My guess is to keep an eye out around Thanksgiving/Black Friday for a sale on the lowers again.  It seems like around every major holiday they throw them on sale.  You really can't beat that deal, or really any of their other parts they offer.  The quality would be well above the Plum Crazy as well for about the same price or less.

I wouldn't call it "cheap",  rather, "inexpensive".  No forward assist, but then the original design didn't have one, and a lot of people say not to use them.  Trigger, etc, was OK.  For an entry-level AR, it's pretty hard to beat.  comes w/  accessory rails and BUIS.   Get a cheekpiece on that collapsible stock, and it's go-time.

The shop where I looked at the M&P-15 has sold a couple dozen, w/ zero returns or complaints.  YMMV

What exactly are you intending this rifle for? How many rounds are you planning on putting through it? Is it going to be just a plinking rifle, or somet6hing a Bug out Gun?

If we knew a little more, we could probably help more.

I just became an IIT and want a rifle for the KD shoots and the Center fire parts of RBC and IBC.  I may just make a trip to Camp Perry and get a CMP Garand if the money comes in as expected around the first of the year.   ^:)^ Never count your chickens before they hatch.

I posted basically the same question on another forum, and have talked to many people way more familiar with that kind of rifle then I. They all said the same thing: If you can't afford quality, save until you can.

I just ordered a PSA middy kit, and plan to order a stripped lower as soon as they are on sale.
