Thanks for sharing.  I have an uncle who served in WWII and both of my in-laws served.  The pictures were great!

My dad served in the US Navy in WWII.

Guess that makes us all baby boomers. :D

The way that the Stars and Stripes Honor flights work is each Veteran's ticket is paid for.  Each Veteran has a Guardian.  Each Guardian pays their own way.  There are fund raisers going on all over Wisconsin to raise money for the flights.

Individuals, civic groups and businesses are stepping up left and right to support this project.

I've been thinking about somehow trying to do some WI Appleseeds as a fundraiser for an Honor Flight.  Sponsors?  Somehow?  Trying to think outside the box, ya know.   ::)  Anyone know what the rules are for nonprofits doing something like that?

They do a "mail call" on the plane on the way home, and have a HUGE welcome home ceremony at the airport.    Here are some of the return home photos.   http://blog.weddingsbyvip.com/2011/10/stars-and-stripes-honor-flight-october_13.html

Imagine a group of 25-30 Appleseeders wearing our shirts at the homecoming.  Maybe I am way out in left field here.  I think Texas was trying to connect with the Wounded Warriors project.  Anyone know how that is going?

Honor and remember.

Thanks for sharing.

I had the honor just a few weeks ago to escort my grandfather to a reunion of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Association down at Ft. Benning Georgia.  I spent a week listening to stories from everyone from truck drivers to tankers.  I talked to a gentleman that jumped into Normandy with the 101st and then rode into Bastogne.  Met a retired Master Sergeant that came ashore on Omaha beach, fought all the way across Europe, stayed for the occupation, and was at Chosin Reservoir when the Chinese came into the Korean War.  Even met a gentleman that was captured during the bulge and finished the war as a POW.

I feel truly blessed to have had the chance to spend time with these men.

And for the sake of fairness, the ladies had plenty of stories too.  Met a few Rosies and a couple of WACs.

Fearful but resolute.

Thanks for posting, OG.

Miller, you ARE "I feel truly blessed to have had the chance to spend time with these men."

Dan, shadowman, we all are blessed to know and talk with these Vets.

I'm the same way.  Spending my time these days in Shreveport at Barksdale AFB.  91 yr old Father-in-law, Lt. Col. Ret, WWII Pilot.  Meeting other retirees and active duty, some WWII, some Korea, some Viet Nam, some now B-52 Pilots, some A-10, some shoot at Appleseed here in SHV.
Honored to have the opportunity to learn from them all, and to impart some of our AS Message.

Thanks, OG, for sharing the pics.
