What a pleasure it is to record the events of a beautiful fall weekend in the Adirondacks. The temperature was just right and no snow or rain. And Dunhams Bay Fish & Game Club allowed us access to all the club's facilities. They even added to the over head cover to allow us to shoot under cover for in climate weather. Nice people there. Range was open to their members and they were very nice people.

We lost a few hours shooting with the early dusk, but none the less we had a very special weekend. It was highlighted by an early Sunday morning visit by a very Large Buck parading past at the 200 yard mark. He stopped and looked at us before continuing on, I think I head some one say he's nose glowed red?. (Rudolf?)

We had 23 shooters, great number for this event. We were able to do many drills and build on all the shooters skills. Some shooters travelled a great distance to join us, from as far away as Watertown, thank you Laura and Jeff and James and Dan coming in from Vermont- return Appleseeders, watching James continue to raise his scores. Many return Appleseeders, Annie (Fishnfvr) with her 30.06 out shooting Known Distance with Krisker who is our new Instructor in Training taking an Orange Hat after many many Appleseeds. This is two Ladies who know very much what they are about and continue the Riflemen's journey.

There is so much positive to speak on this event, I can't capture it all. Those shooting the Riflemen's score: Dave repeatedly the weekend (who's wife stayed and watched all weekend, there was much pleading to have her join us on the line, hopefully next time), Justin V scoring higher them he thought, Doc Rob returning Appleseeder and Smurf a return Appleseeder who then and now maintains a Riflemen's score. Smurf even got his brother Keith to stay for the weekend, nothing but smiles from Keith all weekend.

The many first time Appleseeders, your journey has just become, come back and join us, continue your riflemen's journey. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THANK YOU.

Krisker taking an Orange Hat - more to her Appleseed Duties, Krisker has been on the Admin Team. Thank you for your service Krisker.

And to the Instructors: Spartan from Lake Placid, MPH_VT from Vermont, NYRASGT, Another D.O.M., The Mrs., LittleMo and Gregch44 - Thank you for making this event special.

It was great to see such a turnout for this event, and what a capable group it was. There was some very fine shooting going on there and rifleman patches were being earned. I am very glad that I was a part of this shoot for sure.
Go big or stay home!

Cabin Fever

This was my third appleseed and a lot of fun.  Each time I learn new things about myself and my equipment, this country's history and marksmanship. I am glad I took the day off from hunting to attend this shoot. It was made even more special by having that big buck run by at the 200 yard target as we were waiting to get started.

After seeing the gunsmith you recommended, I now have a quality Bushnell scope on my 30-06 deer rifle and along with a trigger modification I am shooting much better groups and without the need for glasses. I was even able to sight it in by myself because of what you have taught me.

It was great to see all of you again. Hope to see you in February with my new 10/22 Ruger in hopes of earning your riflemen patch with icicles.  Thanks again for all your knowledge and assistance.  It is greatly appreciated.
Shoot Like A Girl ~ If You Can!

Throughout her career, it is believed that Annie Oakley taught upwards of 15,000 women how to use a gun. Oakley believed strongly that it was crucial for women to learn how to use a gun, as not only a form of physical and mental exercise, but also to defend themselves.

Another D.O.M.

I'll put up some of Krisker's photos later.

Speaking of the 'big buck' out in the 200-yard tall grass, we removed a calling card from the fellow from my right shoulder tonight.  Had to extract the head surgically - that sucker was dug in deep!  The morale here is:  always, always, ALWAYS check for freeloaders after coming home from the range!

This was another fantastic event at Dunham's Bay F&G.  Outstanding numbers and weather for this time of year in the northeast.  I am pleased with the turnout, and pleased with the amount of quality instruction presented despite losing nearly four hours of daylight to Old Man Winter.

Congrats to all who achieved the Rifleman score on their AQTs; and welcome aboard (as and instructor) to Krisker (who is already a member of the Admin Team and creates the Event Fliers for the Southeast Region).

Thank you and another job well done to the instructor crew.  And a huge thank you to the host range!

The Mrs.

On this Thanksgiving Day I have much to be thankful for, not the least of which is Project Appleseed.  Gary and I took our Orange Hats last year at the November Dunham's Bay shoot and have never looked back.  Becoming involved with this program has been a great experience.  Over the last year we have done 10 shoots, 2 IBC's and many promotional venues.  We have met many GREAT people along the way, instructors and shooters alike.  And man....have we learned allot.  As is said over and over again, the path of the Rifleman only STARTS when you shoot the score.

Dunham's Bay is a never fails to impress.  Beautiful Adirondack venue, great people and lots of noise!! ;D  My hat is off to the shooters.  Nice folks, every one.  Ready, willing and able to learn.  It is such a joy to get to know you and help you achieve your goals.

The nice folks from the range.  Dunham's Bay welcomes us with open arms.  Their members work with us without a complaint.  Nice folks!!

To my fellow instructors.  Wow, what can I say.  Each of you brings so much to the program.

So as you gorge yourself on turkey today with this most American holiday,  remember the sacrifices our forefathers made so we can spend time with friends and family.  Remember them....honor them....and keep up the work that they started.  Get off the couch and stay involved.

Remember Rifleman adjust, adapt and persevere!!

With honor,
Sue

This was my first Appleseed and my first time shooting a .22 since I was a 9 year old. I had a great time and learned a lot, both about marksmanship  and about our revolutionary heritage. Thanks to Shoot Boss Mark, Gary, Sue and all the orange hats and red hats that made this a great first step in my journey to becoming a rifleman.

Smurf

It was another great Appleseed!!!! Many, many thanks to the membership of the Dunhams Bay F&G Club for hosting this fine event throughout the year. The Appleseed team of R1sgx2, AnotherD.O.M., LittleMo, TheMrs., Spartan, Gregch44, NYRASGT, and MPH_VT did a fantastic job!!!! You all provide us with topnotch instruction, historical education and positive encouragement. It is my fellow students that provide me with the greatest inspiration. After several Appleseeds, I am seeing several returning students. They wear their shell burns, bloody elbows, torn shirts and sore bodies as badges of honor. Not given to them but won by them and worn proudly!!!! I see their knowledge and interest of history grow with each event. From the youngest to the oldest, they are fine people. The Appleseed Team makes this all possible. Thank You!!!!!

R1SGx2

Citizen,
Thank you for joining us this weekend, looking forward to seeing you again on the line with family or friends.

Smurf,
You must be a writer, your comments are all truth and very nicely put. AGAIN to you and your brother, good job! Let me know when you are ready to join the Appleseed team. You have a lot of skills to share.

Anyone with photo's?

This was a great Appleseed event! Wonderful location, wonderful host range, wonderful temperature to enjoy a weekend of learning and shooting (a bit chilly Saturday morning but it warmed up), wonderful instructors, and of course wonderful students who were eager to learn! It was great to see the amazement and pride on the students' faces when they compared the Saturday morning Redcoat target to the Saturday afternoon Redcoat. The students saw visually how well they improved after just one day of instruction! The Sunday morning Redcoat was equally impressive. The best was the Sunday afternoon Redcoat target! All the students did fantastic! They showed they had applied what was taught to them! This was very impressive!

Congratulations to those that earned their Rifleman patch! You all showed how to persevere! Congratulations to Krisker for taking the Orange Hat. :)

It was an honor for me to be among all of the teachers at this Appleseed event.  I have taken home the foundation for my journey to be come a rifleman.  As a first time shooter and a self considered student of my own interests, I am eager to put into practice what I was taught. And there is still so much to learn!

Thank you all for the constructive comments and encouragement.  At the end of the weekend I had a large GRIN :D on my face!

Thanks to all who gave their valuable time!

The Mrs.

I am always in awe of, and proud to be in the presence of such great Americans.  A Riflemen's path is never an easy one.  To achieve the goal requires patience with oneself, and perseverance through the face of many obstacles.

Whether it is learning to make the shot consistantly, even with physical challenges, or raising your voice in what often seems a wilderness, Riflemen are there.

When I look into the eyes of those who have come out to learn (I hesitate to call them students and I learn as much from them as they do from me), I see the future of not only our great sport, but our great land.  Thank you folks, every one...for standing up and being counted.
