We use the ones on a flashlight. They are in a  rugged flashlight housing and cheap to buy. Home Despot has em' as a 2 pack for under $20.
There are others that are similar. Most use 3 AAA's. Brinkman makes a pretty decent one too that sits on my Mosin trainer stock.
The BSA rifle laser I got a few years back is plastic junk with a cheezy switch with hard to find hearing aid batteries.

I started with a red HeNe laser, it worked when the conditions were right.
I have since upgraded to a Green laser, looks like a pen and runs on 2 AAA batteries.
Easy to install on a stock with 2 wire ties and one of the wire ties can hold down the 'on' switch.
@ $25 at the local gun show and the beam is much easier to see in all light conditions and on targets.
Caveat: Some of the newer imported green lasers may not comply with generally accepted safety standards.
Treat them the same way you would a loaded rifle. Muzzle in a safe direction at all times.

What a nation has done, a nation can aspire to.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

Tex and I were rummaging through one of the newly revamped gun counters at WalMart in Searcy AR this weekend.

Didn't find a laser that looked like any I had seen at an AS for NPOA demo, and expensive, too.

I sure miss the laser demo when it is not available.

Thanks Hawk & Dan.  And, thanks for asking the question, David.

I use my laser bore sighter. As I don't own a shotgun, I leave the 12 gauge adapter ziptied to my demo stock and just screw on the laser prior to the shoot and return it to the cleaning/repair box when done.

I have a Bushnell laser bore sighter that doubles as the NPOA demo laser held in place in the barrel channel of an old 10/22 stock with blue masking tape so removal is easy and residueless. Think it cost about $30.

Went to Radio shack and got the one that looks like a slightly oversize fountain pen, red color, cost was around $30.   It works.    IIRC, it's made in the USA

while at the checkout line at WalMart, I spotted the $4 keychain type, red color, spare battery, works OK, no monetary pain if you lose/destroy it, only drawback is that it's made in the PRC

I bought one at Walmart for $30 that I use to help me see where my daughters are on target as a training aid.  It needs rezeroed often tough.  It attachs to a Picatiny (sp?) rail on the stock.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

Thanks ya'll.
I've got some good ideas to work with now.
And yes one of the most valuable lessons I have seen given on NPOA was when a green laser was used. You could see the model was off target and the shift onto target and how when he hit his respiratory pause the laser was right on target. Bang !!! The class really got it that day.

Got mine at Ace Hardware for about $6 - it's an LED flashlight with a laser in the center and the switch toggles light-laser-off.  Don't forget that office supply stores and pet stores (cat toys!) carry 'em too.

No but I wish they were. I'll see John in a couple of weeks in Atlanta/Tx, I'll find out where he got his laser at. He has the best design I have sen yet. Thanks for the reminder.

Gear Head Patriot

I built a demo rifle using a Ruger 10/22 stock I bought off ebay, with the factory 10/22 trigger assembly, a piece of pipe for a barrel, and a laser I bought off of amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B44KAA).  The laser turns on when you pull the trigger and release the hammer.  I didn't track what I spent on the build, the laser was less than $5, plus I think $20 for the stock.  It's not too pretty, but has been a great demo tool, and gets used at home for dry fire drills by my son.  The sights are on at 10', with the laser POI rising progressively from there.

The real value is the ability to put a shooter on it during a break or over lunch.  This rifle allows us to show them with the laser, the influence of the various stability factors and of properly executing the 6 steps to firing the shot, to include trigger squeeze.

I'm going to try this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/stainless-steel-5mw-red-laser-pointer-pen-2-aaa-22336

Can't go too wrong for the price.  There are several others to choose from there as well.
