Carbine Sling Question

I'll try to make this intelligible...I have converted an old 10/22 to a "Garand Carbine" using a conversion stock from EB Brown Co...Looks extremely cool...I also purchased a sling and oiler...Now; How in the name of General Patton do I get the sling to stay put? I know the "snap" end goes on the front sling swivel...And, I assume that the other end goes around the oiler that is sitting in the groove in the butt stock...However, I cannot get the thing to stay in the slot unless I tighten the sling to the point where it is too tight to use...It looks good on the rifle, but it is useless, since when loosened, it falls out of the slot in the butt... Any advice will be appreciated!

You should be able to run the buckle downd so that the oiler will not fall out.
