Trisha

As of right now we only have 2 pre-regs for this Appleseed. This just won't do. We need to work together and get this event promoted!! Anything you do please post it even if it is getting the event posted in a newspaper's community calendar or telling women at work. Whatever it is please post it so we know what has been done and what still needs to be done.

Last night I was talking with techres in the radio show chat room about promotions for this event and with Ewlad's help within 40 minutes they came up with a bunch of different women's groups in WI. I just started cutting and pasting everything they put down so that I wouldn't lose or forget any of them. As you will see the list is long, and not in any order, but if you do one of them, then let us know and I will cross it off the list.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Ok, looks to me like we have three groups here:

1. Remotely Doable Promotions (Calendars, emails, mailed flyers w/ cover letters)

2. Personal Promotions (Family/Friends/Gun shops/Groups)

3. Big Promotions (Local media outlets, Libraryseed)

Alright, now for action.  Who can help with this?  I can help with a good amount of this and Trisha is obviously on board, anyone else?

You know you want in now!  Time is extremely nigh here and we need this event as full as we can.  A few hours on a week night could make all the difference in the world.

And, do we have any BOTG in Madison/Lodi?  Anyone with a free day in the next week?  That would be huge.

So...

Who's in for fun?!  O0

We had a Women on Target class this past Saturday....I gave them all information on Lodi Ladyseed, I also had a display up with information. I got an e-mail from one wanting more info for her and a friend, so I sent her links for more information including online registration.  Will send a follow up e-mail to her next week.

You could try inviting Vicki McKenna to Lodi or maybe getting on her radio show to talk about Appleseed.  http://www.newstalk1130.com/pages/mckenna_blog.html

I'm in and I'll be going to Lodi on Monday afternoon.  Help me think of some things I can do while I am there.

I gave the YMCA leader the women-only Appleseed flyers to pass out to her group.  She is ON BOARD and is working to get the weekend off work so she can attend.

RWVA has an invitation to speak at the Lodi (Kiwanis?).  They meet on Wed's at noon.  Colycat has the contact number, but has been working out of town during the week and hasn't set anything up with them yet.    Chime in here if you could do the luncheon talk, and we could try to make that happen before the August 27-28 ladyseed.

UPDATE:

Send to the chamber of commerce in Lodi:

QuoteHello,

I represent a national 501c3 nonprofit organization that does weekend events in history, heritage and rifle marksmanship.  We will be holding a "Women Only" event a the end of this month and wish to add it to your calendar ( http://www.lodiwisconsin.com/calendar/ ) if at all possible.

I have attached a PDF trifold brochure of our organization and what we do in order to help you understand us better, and in the hopes that there is a mechanism that we can use to update our event in Lodi to your community calendar.

Thank you for looking at this material and for any help that you can give us.

Sincerely,
Joshua Streiff, Regional Coordiantor
The Appleseed Project

I added the trifold listed above.  As soon as they get back to me I will post it up.  I fear that they may require membership, BUT since we are 501c3 they might do it.  We will see.

Also posted to Visit Madison who has a 300 character limit:

QuoteHistory is made by Women - those with strength, skill & courage who chose a better future for themselves & their descendants.  The Appleseed Project awakens their past to share their stories in order to bring about our better future.  Two days of women's heritage, rifle instruction, & friends await!

Trisha, Vee Kay, do either of you have a Facebook account so we can contact Becoming an Outdoors-Woman in Wisconsin

I could try, but it would make more sense if it came from someone local and a Riflewoman.  I can help with content of post or contact if you want, but getting an email from a guy in Indiana might be less successful.

Tech,  Thanks for updating the womenonly flyer and the help with promotion.  I have gotten a positive response from the ones I have handed out so far.

Can you correct the Lodi date.  Should be Aug 27-28.   ;)

Vee Kay already got it, but you should go and share it.

I am PM'ing Scuzzy & Trutenacity on the homeschooler front as they have the most experience making those contacts.  Do you have a specific person doing your homeschooler contacts in WI, if so that would be useful to know.

That leaves the college contacts.  I am still working on that.

Oh, if we have tear sheet flyers for Lodi and madison, do we have someone to put them up cause I can make some...

I've got lots of homeschool contact info. However I will need to refresh it since it a bit out of date.

It's a strange process I have which creates 'csv' files which can be input to a mail client so that the process is automated.

If anyone is interested you can see this small howto I put together.
http://appleseedinfo.org/mailmerge/mailmerge.html
If you want to do this yourself I'll send an input file and you can send out the letter yourself.

Or I can work with somebody. Somebody would create a homeschool letter I'll get it out. I did have an email server setup for me but it appears to be inactive now. I'll have to get with the Instructor that set it up for me.

I made this real quick, using a pic I had in my files. It's Vee Kay, practicing her skills. You all are free to use it to promote your upcoming shoot.

I've also attached a blank date promo piece that you can modify in your own graphics editing software or Word and add your own dates and locations for your upcoming LadySeeds.

UGH! If only I could punctuate. Don't use the previous images I haduploaded. I mispunctuated Ladies.

The current uploads are fine. If you want any changes made to them, please let me know.

Great job with the flyers. I will try to bring my work in line with your palettes and typefaces.

Here is a freshly made list of email account for homeschooler organizations in Wisconsin. See attached.

I'll try and get this out using my email server but it's down right now. Waiting to see if the person that set it up can fix it. He usually takes a few days to get back with me.

Now we need a letter to send out. Maybe I can use some of the text from techres flyer. Let me know what y'all want to send.

Here is a letter to homeschoolers that I found on the forum, one that was written back on 2009. Let me know if this is the route we want to take with the letter and I can go in and change some of the wording, and make it a little more up to date.

Excellent!

Ok, so the Admin team is ready to send an email burst to previous attendees, and scuzzy is up on the homeschoolers.  The sendouts can wait a day or so while Scuzzy gets a ladyseed page up and approved for use.  That way we can link the page into any mailings that we are doing.

Hang on, we are in for a ride!

Techres

P.S. Dragonfly, I am pointing all these promo contacts to you with email and such as it is on the EIP.  Please do let us know if/when you get contacts off of this.  Thanks!

How about another Lodi Women's Club Library seed. We have to be quick, but could get it done. Probably should try to get one in Baraboo and Sauk Prairie as well. We should probably make contact with the 4 Ladies that were at the one in Lodi back in June.

I have a test page up for LadySeed:

http://test.appleseedinfo.org/scuzzy/ladyseed.html

Once everybody thinks it's OK I'll move it to the live site. It probably needs more text but that about all I could come up with for now. The text is from techres' pdf files.

I think it looks pretty good. By any chance, are there any pictures of women teaching women? That might be something nice to see on there.

Looks great! It's better to have less text and more pictures. People don't want to spend a lot of time reading, so if you can show more pictures and maybe add some captions to explain what's going on, that would be helpful.

I would like to suggest maybe adding a link, or two, somewhere on the page as to what the newcomer should do next. Register, read some other page? As a newbie, I felt a lot of disconnect in navigating the Appleseed pages as to what I should do next to get ready for Appleseed. Do I register or find out what I need to buy to get ready and where are those links? Thanks.

scuzzy

OK - next step more pics. Those are some good ones linked above. I'll use 'em.

I need to work a bit more on the top graphic also. The text LadySeed isn't centered well. Maybe a tad more red in the roses too.
