OK so its not a main stream Rifle ,,
This one is in 7.5x54 Not the converted to .308. does anyone know  if the same hold off's used with 30'06 7.62x51 would be the same with this Rifle or not ?looking at it I think so but intell I get it to a Range I don't know. so far all I know is it is very easy to field strip and clean  no easy windage adjustment to it (there is windage adjustment for sighting in on the front sight) I also have read about the possable slamfire's with boxed ammo rather then surplus however study shows me that out of battery slamfire is  about imposable (it would still bug me tho)any and all knowlage of this Rifle and the ammo it use's would be nice to have thank you in advance .

Not sure of the hold-offs.. I've got a MAS 36/51, and a good bit of the commercial ammo I've shot in is underpowered and dirty.. Surplus ammo has been HARD to come by... Hope you 49/56 has a thinner front sight than my MAS...Mine's like a tree trunk.. :P

Ok the front sight is for finer elavation  on the rear sight right next to the peep is a screw for windage ajustments ,,bigest problem I have found so far with this Rifle is ammo looks like it willbe a reload ammo for it with milspec primers (cci #34) so Iless you allready have one of these's or are willing to do your own  load's for it or can really stock pile ammo  this is not that great of a Rifle  but other then ammo and getting a web sling on it it is a good Rifle  ,,will have better range report at the end of the day,,(wish I had more ammo for it)

$475/1k not bad, but not great for corrosive. But surplus 7.5 French is not easy to find!!
Most of the surplus I've found in kinda like Pakastani .303,
clikc..........bang!

Good luck

2 slam fires today with it  ,,hits at 400 yards on steel (aprox 20 inch wide by 30 inch tall) as said before extremly easy to field strip  (easyer then an sks or hk  :o), with iron sights I thin k this rifle could be used to 600 yards  if some one really wanted to get to know one of these I would expect much better with a scope ,,,but alas ammo is abit hard to find so its a reload for it   tools needed for finer sight ajustments  (even if said tools are just a screw driver and a rusty nail thats still tools) better then 7.62x39 as far as power when getting out there ,,  But inless you find a really great buy on one and can deal with the ammo probs I would think a Rifleman would be better off with an sks or an enfield #4 or better yet a Rack grade cmp m-1 Garand  O0 ,

So why the heck did I buy this little French Rifle ? Well years ago I had one that had been (badly) converted to .308 and had wondered how good a Rifle they where if left in 7.5x54 And I had no Rifle with me at the time (left home with a military load  cant take my own Rifles on base) so with 3 rifles to look at to buy #1 turk 8mm muaser with loose rear sights (pass #2 war year mosin nagant  pass and #3 an unloved mas 49/56 that just said "Masuer I am but an unloved  good battel Rifle take me away from these folks that do not like me  I will be a good rifle for you  and I am come complete with 120 rounds of ammo and Masuer I can be had for the price of an sks from these ppl :o so I now have a little french friend.

I have accidently spured some some intrest in the mas 49/56 rifle  :o Once again ammo will be an issue with one of these rifles  and once again for a Rifleman there are much better Rifles to be had that have ammo easy to find for them  an m-14 an fn-fal an m-1 Garand a Jlungman 6.5x55 even,,,  heck even a hakim you can find ammo for it  easy and cheap (8mm) I cost is an issue  an enfield #4 (great all around Rifle ) best bolt action battle rifle ever made,  an sks with good ammo is nothen to sneeze at either  heck I have to wonder if a finnish mosin nagant would be better (due to ammo for the mas).

Yes wideners has berdan primed brass for it how ever a slight concern is the mixed head stamp dates  so I would have to would from one date to another if the primer is defrant  ( ie fps with same amount of powder would be diffrant or case thickness doing the same thing),,I allready have primers and rcbs dies on the way from  natches   . counted my brass for it today  I still have all 120 cases :o :) so some time this next week I should be able to get back to testing this little rifle .

O well for now its back to normal reloading of m-2 ball and .45 acp,,,,and  perhaps some .308 match,,
