Was anyone else watching Jay (the unteachable) and thinking "M1 thumb...M1 thumb..."?  ;)

I saw that too and was thinking, "Well, Jay's about to learn something here!"

Strong work, Jamie. Did you get a date worked out with Scout to come on the radio show?

I noticed that but I got side tracked with a few choice phrases when Jay said "The Garand is a military rifle and I don't have easy access to military rifles."  Somebody needs to get that guy a CMP catalog.  Or is there a California restriction on Garands?

He was just looking for an easy excuse.  The fundamentals are the same and once the clip is inserted and the first round is chambered, it does not matter what kind of rifle it is.  The challenge was about aquiring NPOA rapidly and squeezing off a well aimed shot while the target was up.  The fact that so many targets went down before a shot could be fired is testament of this.
M1 Garands are 100% California legal in original configuration.  They do not have a detachable magazine, flash hider, pistol grip or folding stock so they are not considered evil.  All they have is a bayonet lug which by itself does not make it a California defined "assault" weapon.

Jamie, I can relate... Being an ol' sailor and get around those from other services they tend to turn their noses up at the thought of a sailor being able to shoot. The only thing left to do is kick their butts! :) There is a couple on there that need their's kicked....O.L.

Jamie, you get a big thumbs up from at least one old jarhead. O0 I am glad to see you have done so well!  Someone needs to get the message to the producers (I know, fat chance) that the show would be much better and more entertaining without the drama and BS.  It should be about shooting not a popularity contest.  I would not bother to watch if it wasn't for you being an Appleseeder.  I made it through about 10 minutes of one episode of "Survivor" the first season because of the drama/bs.  Anyway GOOD JOB keep at it!

MI VAShooter was a Navy shooter and is more than Double Distinguished. I have no doubt that Sailors can be very good shots (particularly after having interacted with a SEAL or two at the VA Beach Appleseeds). Jamie's shooting has been impressive, I was really impressed by the Match 1911's and the rotating targets for the shootoff I saw.

I have to agree with CSWhitfield about the drama. I really can't stand it. I generally read or do something else until the competition.

I don't have cable but someone told me that you can watch episodes at history.com. I saw the most recent two episodes over the past two evenings. All I can say is "wow", such drama. Not sure what the problem is with George, but holy smokes. I guess it makes for good TV.

I will say that George did a nice job doping the wind, learning from the prior shooters and getting a round downrange pretty quickly. Mr. Jerseyshore has a thing to learn about humility and kindness to a fellow human being though.

As for Jay, he seemed like a nice enough guy. The way the show made it seem, he really had an unteachable attitude, which is something I really dislike. Ego. But it worked for him, he lasted this long despite it (from what I hear) and really did look like he was going to outshoot Jamie during this last challenge.

I know it is too late, but I am rooting for Jamie to make it a few more weeks. If not, well it is great you lasted this long. I can see that the others in the house are gunning for you now, so it won't be won by personality!

Two things:

  • You can't spell "George" without  E - G - O
  • I hate the idea of Jamie having to go back to that house to live with those drama queens. Yes, I know it's already a done deal, and that Jamie was safely in A-stan by the time it all aired, but still - being odd-man-out for no apparent reason is a tough spot to be in.
I keep slipping TopShot into my POIs, usually when I talk about following through. I mention that a lot has to happen before the bullet leaves the barrel, and mention the high-speed shots on TopShot so shooters can see the value of keeping the trigger held back. I always mention Jamie being an IIT, too - nice plug for our program.

BTW - how'd you like George's "I got it in one shot, I should have been the winner, even though I knew they rules going in, and two guys beat me fair and square, including the squid I hate for no apparent reason." Maybe he took a second longer getting his shot off than Jamie did because he didn't want to smudge his makeup.

In fact, the bayonet lug is not a consideration under CA law, so there is absolutely nothing about an M1 that makes it questionable under the AWB.

If Carlos Hathcock were still alive, he could tell you the importance of getting your shot off earlier than the other guy.

I won't mention why here, because the story is worth reading.

Thanks for all the continued support, guys. Appleseeders rule!

From listening to all the post-elimination interviews with Caleb Giddings on Blog Talk Radio, it seems like this issue of people not knowing what I do in the Navy was a HUGE DEAL. I never realized that it was an issue, as George was the only one who ever asked me to elaborate on my career. I wasn't intentionally hiding anything or keeping anything a secret, I just didn't know anybody gave a crap. I guess this was viewed as "shady" by the other military members in the house (although I can CONSTANTLY be seen throughout the season wearing Rescue Swimmer T-shirts in the house). If anybody had asked, I would have gladly explained myself. I'm very proud of my career, but I guess I do understand how it could be confusing because there's not 1 word or 1 sentence that can accurately summarize what I do in the Navy. For example: if I said "I'm a Diver" - people would know what that is. If I said "I'm Military Police" - people would know what that is. But I guess saying that "I'm an Operations Specialist, Rescue Swimmer, Water Survival Instructor, and I work with Explosive Ordnance Disposal" - that's not easily understood if you're not in the Navy, and it doesn't explain how or why I'm a good shooter...

But I'm still hanging in there. I can tell you that before Jay and I walked into that M1 Elimination Challenge - although we both had the desire to win - neither of us really cared all that much if we didn't have to return to that house, and that atmosphere.

Jamie, their loss.

I'm also military, Army  side of the house (was Regular Army 72-83, been Army Guard since 83).

We watched the episode with George, my girlfriend laughed at him, for being an idiot after. He knew the rules before he shot, he took his time (too much time). He should go learn Carlos Hathcock's lesson on shooting through the scope. Hathcock figured the only way he could've done that was if the sniper against him was aiming at him. Hathcock said he was "just quicker on the trigger".

Tonight was a great episode.  Jamie - you totally rock!!!  The pressure was on and you came through like a champ.  The reactions of the other five were priceless.  Very classy the way you handled Ashley's trash talk, too.  I don't care what happens for the rest of the series - you've proven that you're in a class by yourself.  I hope to have the privilege to meet you in person on the Appleseed trail.

Last night's competition was the best example of practical marksmanship so far.  Four different firearms fired from unstable positions deffinitely takes chance and luck out of the equation.  It is impressive that your performance was fairly equal across all four stages.  Great job!  I still find it interesting that they don't allow the use of a sling.  I echo the comments about your exhibition of class.   O0

Jaime, I mirror what the others said.  A class act and a good show in the challenge for sure.  You definintley threw a massive wrench into their plans and their little pack feel apart real fast, and you did it without any smuggness, etc.

You were put up against the odds and knew you had to win and you went above and beyond just a simple win!

That was your episode last night. Not only did you win the comp but you handled Ashley with class. I even have to give George kudo's for trying to keep it performance based. I'm pullin for ya, from a fellow navy guy, the rest of the guys looks like tough competition but I think you can win it.

May you find fair winds and following seas on all of your travels.

I was sure that most of the viewers saw right through Ashley and George's BS, but I had not idea how much.  I followed fprintf's History Channel link, watched the last episode and went to the discussion part of the site.  There may be one person in the whole country that is sticking up for George and no one for Ashley.

This may be a "teaching moment" for us Appleseeders; as the Project gets bigger and has more impact and higher visibility we need to remain rational adults and keep from bickering among ourselves.
