Placeholder,

All y'all can go ahead and start here and I'll come back and fill in the details.
West and I are home safe, about an extra 2 hours on the way home.
Hope this finds everyone home and thawed!

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

What a GREAT weekend! New venue, fantastic group of students, true Winterseed Weather, In all----success.

Saturday was cold and sunny, Sunday the front came thru the area and the wind was 40 MPH sustained into the shooter's faces, with rain and then snow. By Sunday afternoon, the windchill was at or near 0°F.

13 discrete shooters and 3 Riflemen.

Quote of the weekend: "I'm not cold, I'm just excited" (SavageRabbit) her teeth chattering was a distraction  **) But HawkHavn was keeping an eye on her &)

Many thanks to JonL (local BOTG) and the BOD of the NorthEast KY Fish & Game  Club for hosting us at their magnificent facility. I will be looking forward to working many shoots there in the future. There is ORANGE headwear on it's way to JonL Congrats and thanks for all of your work in Western WV and Eastern KY. Thank you for stepping up and leaving your couch unattended!

This was a fun shoot.  For the first time in over a year, I attended Appleseed as a shooter.  I really think all of us in colored hats should do that from time to time.  Shake the rust off.  Remember what it's like on the other side of the fence.  (Hint, it's great!)

And we talk about perseverance.  You know, because riflemen persevere.  Let me tell you, there was ample evidence of this principle on Sunday.  I was shooting with a scope, and on multiple AQT strings, had to reach up with my thumb and scrape the ice off of the front lens.  All the shooters in attendance were, well... nothing short of HARD CORE.  O0

"Alllllll ready on the firing line!  FIRE!"

*plop* *load* *cheekweld*  "I can't see a thing!"  *scrape*  "ohhhhhhhhhhhh.... there's the target!"  *shoot*

So... my transitions included an ice-scraping element.

So, now we're going to have to invent tiny defrosters and tiny windshield wipers for front objectives on scopes at Winterseed. :D

Sounds like a good time despite the weather. I also notice that a certain IIT4 now has a red hat. ^:)^ Congratulations!
I would say you guys and gals looked old man winter in the eye and said we are here to stay. That is great to hear that 3 Riflemen in such adverse conditions.
JonL an orange hat???? O0

I will be at the next shoot we have at NEKFG.

Ok, so I'm recovered,,, mostly... LOL  I have stuff hurtin' that I didn't know I had.  Good stuff,, makes ya tougher. LOL   I've been poppin' ibuprofen like skittles.
I can't thank Mac, West, HH, and even tho he wasn't official that weekend... Siglite enough for all the great instruction and attention they gave me.
It was a great weekend.  I improved and that's all that counts.  My coffee pot drips a little slow but eventually I get a full cup.  :)
I didn't earn a snazzy blue patch but I tell ya what I did earn, something a runner friend of mine calls "smug superiority".   You get that when you get up and do 90% more than 90% of the populous.

I'm going to buy me a decent sling this week and practice practice practice!!!!

Would not have missed this one, snow or no snow.
Fantastic students, beautiful range and a little iffy on the weather.  ;D

Mac's photos tell the story and I'll add my own here in a bit.

First chance I have had to hand out those nifty ice blue Rifleman patches.

One rifle's trigger return spring wimped out so our intrepid shooter just manually reset it AFTER following through.

A nice lunch on Sunday in a really nice clubhouse allowed everyone to soak up a little heat and dry out before venturing back to the line for some more AQTs and 2 more Riflemen scores Sunday afternoon.

I wish it had been possible to catch that tornado of snow that came down through the valley on film.  That was spectacular!!

That was neat.  It made me laugh, too.  "NOW it's good shootin' weather!"

But then, I'm told regularly that I'm insane because I enjoy shooting in weather extremes.

Wow...sounds like you all had a real blast...40 mph style!  ^:)^

Don't let siglite fool anyone, he arrived in shooter stealth mode because he just HAD to have one of those cool Winterseed patches!  ;D

Congratulations on the new lid, Mac, you certainly earned it! Thanks for sharing the nice photos and commentary too.  O0

I also want to thank JonL for taking the first step on your instructor journey. It looks like you will have plenty of practice in the southern WV/northeastern KY region.  :)

You all had a very good turnout for this Winterseed--I heard savagerabbit had a role in that  ;)--a fantastic instructor crew and an overall impressive outcome. Nice report!

This was a great weekend despite the weather.  I can't thank the instructors enough.  Driving so far knowing that the weather was going to be bad speaks volumes about their enthusiasm and commitment.  Everyone learned and improved so much this weekend, myself included, and it was amazing to watch.  Another Appleseed down, and I'm still not a rifleman, and being the competitive type, that irks me some, but I can honestly say, I had a great time and would do it again....with more layers! :D
