Competitive shooter's way to rig the M1907 loop sling.

Now, can that be used as a Loop Sling? Or is it limited to Hasty and Hasty Hasty? If a Loop is possible, do you have pics of that too?

A friend of mine is a serious competitive shooter. He gave me a nice 1907, and walked me through it just like shown above except;
   The frogs on the "outside" of the sling. He did say that that was backwards from most shooters but that's the way he uses it, to keep the hardware away from the clothes/skin.

   Having never used one before he showed me, I now use it the way he taught me ("frogs out"). I really like the "elastic" feel of the oiled leather. It seems to me I can relax into it tighter than the web.

   Just my thoughts on the matter...

I like the 1907 sling so much that I put it on all my rifles I like the feel of it and It's easy to get on and off with a shooting jacket on. I have been using the slings sold by pacific leather and canvas, the price is right and they work for me . Neets foot oil works well to soften them up before use. http://www.pacificcanvasandleather.com/slings.htm

I run mine "frogs out" as well (on an M1 Garand).  The rest of my slings are now the cotton GI type, but for some reason the M1907 feels good to me on the Garand.  Turner Saddlery made mine.

Frogs in or out doesn't make any performance difference as near as I can tell.  If one way or the other interferes or pinches the back of your hand, whatever, feel free to turn it around.  I think frogs out is slightly easier for a new user to understand, but your mileage will vary.

Yes, M1907 excels as a loop sling.  Your arm goes in the middle loop, where the brass "D" for the shorter piece of leather is, and you slide both of the keepers down against your arm.  You can tighten it even further on your arm by pulling the upper frog closer to your arm, sliding the whole large piece of leather through the front swivel.  Usually I don't have to do this and the keepers are enough.

I bought a Turner M1907 sling for my DPMS LR308 and ordered Jim Owens book on using the sling.  Describes and shows how to assemble the M1907 sling.  Thing is that if you only put the sling together once and a year and later someone asks you how you did it you will not remember exactly.  At Palmerton, PA shoot I had two shooters with new M1907 slings to set up.  Of course my book and my sling were at home so I had to wing it.

I put one on my M1917 a year or so back for "the look" and to try it out.  It was okay till I went shooting one day when it was really hot.  Getting that sling up on and then back off my left arm was a real chore.  The sweat didn't seem to make it slick it seemed to glue it to my arm.  Otherwise it was fine.  I went out and bought a Kerr sling for it.  In the end is will seem like using a leather sling (vs the way a cotton/nylon web sling works) but hopefully it'll be easier to get on/off in sweaty circumstances.  And the Kerr has "the look" for an M1917, too.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

M1907 makes a good loop sling.  The rigging method photographed above was recommended to me during a rifle clinic taught by a well respected competitive shooter.  Yes, there are several ways to rig the M1907.

I wouldn't want to have messed with the man who was demonstrating the sling in the Fulton Armory photo's.......He looks like he has killed more than a few nazi's.

Check the milsurp stores. I found a fer nice used 1907s in a bucket of about 10 of them at a local military surplus store. $16 later and some Lexol leather conditioner and it feels brand new.
