It looks like another dedicated group of American's learning more about their heritage in beautiful northern Wisconsin!  :bow:  (We moved the border by a few miles!)

It also looks like its getting cooler out!  Time to bust out the hooded sweatshirts and put them in the shootbox. ^:)^

It was definitely a great weekend!  We didn't make any Riflemen, but we started 9 on the path!    O0
Also was very nice to work with Colycat and Old Glory for the first time...  you two made it a very informative weekend,  I learned a lot about instructing from both of you.

Very much looking forward to meeting everyone again on the trail!

I was blessed to have the two of them at my first AS, and it was because of them (to a great deal) and their spirit that I decided to stick with the program and persevere despite my obvious incompetence.   :wall:  Keep telling our history with such spirit and intensity!!  O0

Oh, and Mogget, thanks for not laughing at me and my MRE's (meals rejected by Ethiopians).  :-\

Sparks, we had a Mossberg Plinkster that wasn't even on paper.  Coly shot it and wasn't on either, then I posted up extra targets all around the one we were aiming at and found that it was hitting about 12" low  :o  Got it adjusted up to correct elevation and returned it to the shooter to finish zeroing, however she had decided to just run her Model 60 instead at this point.

Jocelyne, Charles, Teri, Gabriella, Matt, Elijah, Susanne, Noel, Jonah; it was an honor spending the weekend with you.  

You persisted through the firehose of instruction; and learned how to handle your rifles safely;  how to work through malfunctions; and followed the detailed instructions of transitions, mag changes, NPOA shifts, course of fires, talking targets, IMC.    

Thanks for participating in the heritage presentations.  Your comments and questions added depth to our discussion of our American Heritage and History.  

Matt and Susanne, thanks for bringing your family, and for ALL of your positive attitudes throughout the whole two days.  I hope they all enjoyed it as much as the instructors did having ya'll on the line.  Everyone worked hard.  To see Gabriella go from "not on the paper", to an AQT with 40 bullets on paper, with some 4's an 5's, and to see a solid foundation develop was the highlight of Sat afternoon for me.   Elijah's effective range was impressive!!!  Noel's made it look like she had been shooting all her life.  Look at her positions. ;)  Jonah, glad you could make it Sunday; another natural in the family!

Teri, an honor to meet you.  Teachers make excellent students O0; notebook, pen, hard boiled eggs, two rifles.  Very prepared!    :bow:    You are a jam-queen, and I mean that in the kindest sense of the term.  :) Clean and lube the rifles and mags and find the compatible ammo, and you are on your way.  I know your husband will be hearing much of the instruction you absorbed. ..:..

Charles and Jocelyne, first ones to arrive, prepared as well!  Came with slings and enthusiasm and a willingness to help out.  Love that!

The Paula Reds are picked and packed, the Haralsons are just around the corner and the Regents will be ready around the end of the month.

The crows have made themselves pretty scarce since their misadventure last month...   ;)

Let's see, LaCrosse, New Lisbon, Rochester and Winona.  Waterman next weekend.  And vmt193 came to the orchard to check out my 25m range and KD's for a possible IBC site.  ::)

8 students on Saturday
9 students on Sunday
4 no shows, same one all weekend.

Cool and windy on Saturday with the temps not getting out of the 50's
Sunday, very pleasant, around 65 degrees and sunny.

This was the first event in Upper Michigan and it was a good one.  All new Apple seeders and very eager to learn.  We already have a date for next August at this range, as the range officers were very happy with what they saw.

I had a great time.  I love it when I can instruct to new shooters and get them excited about even hitting the paper.

I think the history was well received and was given by all three of the instructors.  All the students will be at the next available AS, probably in Niagra WI.

P.S.  Its pretty hard to follow OG's AAR :bow:

This range and it's members are REALLY special.  

I believe it is the first rifle range I have ever been to that isn't down a gravel road.   ^-^  

A SUPER range.   Right off the road, open prairies, 1000 yard range.  

Our range hosts offered an option to all for primitive camping, if you chose.  Plus there are some  inexpensive clean hotels 26 miles away in Escanaba.  (Hiawatha was good!)

The club extended the invitation to Appleseed to return.   ^:)^  

It was well worth the 4+ hour drive.  You know when you are up nort when you see signs like

Want to see "Up North" ? Wait till we Minnesotans get up and running in our north country. Ain't no prairies up here...No ma'am, only woods thicker than ticks on a dog in June. Might have to shoot in the winter 'cos the leaves have to drop to let in enuf sunlight to see the targets. Hah!
Didn't you tell 'em Russell? Oh yeah, I'm not sposed to scare 'em away. Durn it...another demerit fur me.

It sounds like any weekend in August might work as their members go to Camp Perry and they don't schedule much at the range in August.   Other times of the year there are quite a few events going on.   But maybe you can talk with Bedford, and possibly get a second date as well. >:D   He did a fantastic job setting this one up.   :bow: :---

BTW, our hosts sat in on all the instruction on Saturday.  On Sunday after the "known distance" intro talk, they generously offered the use of their own rifles and ammo for anyone who wanted to go over to the long distance range, and offered to work the pits as well.   Wow!  Russell went over for a bit while the rest of us continued to work on foundational skills at 25 yards.  I hope everyone will return to this range; and after another day or two of instruction, we could all make use of the known distance portion.

Thanks for the kind words Old Glory, and great photos (although to establish the local color I wish you would have included some of the -- let's just call it "unique" -- Escanaba lawn art).  I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful place than that ranch on day #2. 
Thanks especially to Colycat for the CCI ammo.  In the cold weather my 1968 10/22 just couldn't fire the Aguila (they knew how to make machines with tight tolerances back then!) After the ammunition switch I had one fail to fire the entire rest of the AS.  You saved the day for me.
Russell is a natural teacher and really knows his stuff.  Our PowerCustom bolt releases are in the mail.

Let us know about next August as soon as you have a firm date.  Be sure to bring an extra Rifleman Badge because Jocelyn told me in no uncertain terms that she is going to practice, practice, practice and earn one next year.

We don't have anything that could equal that magnificent Superior Game Ranch, but the Harbor Springs Outdoor Club, which is about 15 miles north of Harbor Springs and about 25 miles north of Petoskey, would make an excellent range for Appleseed.  The range goes out to about 400 yards, but what is far more important is that it is a wide range that could accommodate quite a number of shooters.  The large club house smells like hamster, but it does have modern plumbing and a working kitchen.   
The range is also, outside of "sighting in" days at the start of deer season, seldom used; the real activity is at the adjacent shotgun range. 
I'll try to post a Mapquest satellite photo of it.  It is in a heavily wooded area, making the entrance easy to miss, so it would be a good idea to put up some signs or other markers for an event.
