18 shooters Saturday
16 shooters Sunday

We lost a few Saturday but gained a few on Sunday.  There were several new shooters on the line this weekend, all made a lot of progress.  It was a hot weekend and everyone hung in there.

The weekend ended with awarding Rifleman patches to Grumpy, Baminal, and Mike.  All three of these Riflemen shot multiple rifleman scores and should be very proud of themselves.  Several others were knocking on the door in the 190's and low 200's.  A little dryfire and another AS should bring them over the hump.

I want to say thank you to all of the instructors and shooters that made my first SB experience a good one.

A special thanks goes out to Reddot for arriving on Friday to mow the range and camping area (with a 20" push mower).

Sounds like another good Davilla Appleseed!!

Congratulations to all our new Rifleman.  GRUMPY~! I'm so glad you made Rifleman.  Was good being your Tent neighbor back in June, and very pleased to see you make the patch!!   Look forward to working the Trail with you sometime soon!!   ^:)^

And Reddot, a push mower?   :o  Wow, if that doesn't say persistence, I don't know WHAT does.   **)

Aromatic, I'm sure you wear the proverbial Green Hat well.   :)  DoubleLL and I were on Special Assignment to El Paso this weekend helping to keep our far Western outpost on the Trail.

Looking forward to seeing many at the picnic next weekend!!

Hey now, I invited the "Hats" for breakfast, too.

I had a wonderful time. Shame you weren't there for my 212 & 213 scores. I appreciate the instruction from all you guys.

Baminal

Thanks to all the instructor staff and more kudos to Reddot for mowing through the heat on friday.  With dedication like that somebody needs to keep an eye on him so he does not keel over in the heat.

Grumpy I'm glad you finally found some mags in your stash that actually fed more than one bullet per stage. !@#)

Realizing how much the instruction I received over 2 AS weekends helped my marksmanship, and how scoring that 220 felt, I too am interested in finding out more about taking on a different color hat so I can pass that sense of achievement on to others.

Family entanglements will keep me away from Davilla until fall, but I'll be back - I still need to break the M1A out on a timed AQT. :---

I always have a fair supply of mags :cool2:, rifles O0, ammo :~, food(if you can stomach Campbell's Chunky soup :P).

Next month I'm gonna break out the AR and make some noise. :---

Congratulations Grumpy, I knew you'd do it.
See you on the trail.

Grumpy, go ahead and get that AR stuff out of your system so we can combine the wonderful sounds of your FAL and my M1A over at the right end of the line when I make it back later in the year.

And don't forget to keep your tires between the ditches between now and then.

Congratulations Aromatic on a successful shoot as shootboss.  O0

Sounds like you and the instructors did a great job over in Davilla- THREE riflemen who are also 7th stepping!!

If you want to get out of the heat you can always come over to El Paso next month and try an indoor shoot.  ;D

I'm going to Chickasha, OK. in two weeks, and back to Davilla next month.
El Paso is a little out of range for me right now, but we'll see.

I might break out the FAL on saturday :---

Hey Grumpy, glad to see you're coming to Oklahoma.
We'll be looking for you.

I work out of Pauls Valley, so it's close.

I had a blast at this shoot.  Aromatic did a wonderful job!  Looking forward to the picnic in Bastrop this Saturday.

Was great to meet another FAL fanatic in AS as well.
(I'd just uncased my STG when Grumpy comes running over across the field..  "I know what THAT is!!!")

Did anyone get any pictures of this shoot?  I failed miserably in the photography department this time.

Congrats to the 3 new Riflemen!

Grumpy

YES!!!
I have lots of pics.
Who do I send them to for approval and posting?

Attended the Davilla shoot in July (my first) and made Rifleman (Mike). VERY impressed with quality of instructors. My friend had lots of problems with a non-sighted in AR-15 and they worked with him throughout Day 1. Support extended to individual one-on-one coaching laying on the ground next to him (Pop and others) while he took the shots. My friend went from wanting to leave at 2 PM on Day 1 to smiling and hitting the targets by 5 PM. The instructors provided the technical knowledge and I did the tough love talk  ;)

Will be way cool if Appleseed makes it to North Texas (Fort Worth area) where I live so easier to go again.

Thanks to all.

Pistolgrip

Thanks to all the instructors for making the weekend such a great experience for my son Jordan and myself. We both made some improvements and I retained more since my 1st AS in March. Thanks to the instructors who worked with Jordan through mechanical issues as well as switching from lefty to right because of an irritated left eye. He improved anyway.  I Will be back for another round later this year with one or both sons.   :---

Dan,
Good to see you here on the sight; it was us who were impressed with you and especially Jordan--I've tried switching from right to left handed and it isn't easy.  Jordan was doing a fantastic job and I'm very proud of his efforts.  I'm looking forward to him getting his Rifleman's patch, next time out.  You too for that matter, you were turning in some very good groups by Sunday afternoon.  Keep dry firing, it will come.
Look forward to seeing you again, with both sons.

GovPreston.  Thanks for posting pics.  It was a pleasure meeting you and Jim this weekend.  Once Jim got his optics squared away, he was shooting some very nice groups.  I hope to see him at the next shoot with a patch in his hand.  Tell Jim I will provide all the Mobil 1 he needs  :---

Word on the street is that there will be some shoots in Atlanta TX.

Yep!  The Atlanta paperwork went in yesterday.
The date for the first event is October 2-3, private land, fine folks.
And, look for an event in Terrel ... hopefully this fall ... see Starfox.

And, Mike, thanks for tag teaming with me on Jim.  When I overheard you doing the "tough love" part keeping his head in the game, that inspired me to keep on with the technical part.  We adjusted his scope forward so he could "turkey neck and cheek weld consistently," borrowed a GI sling from Larry (thanks Larry), tightened the new sling, worked on steady hold factors, relaxing the left dominant but, non-shooting eye so it did not interfere with other factors in his position (shooters with a dominant, non-shooting eye really struggle with squinting), got the groups down to ~6 MOA from all over the target backer, and adjusted his scope up 11 MOA and left 7 MOA to put him really close.  This all took some time and effort on my part and Jim's ... and yours, but, Jim's smiles at the end of day Saturday were the prize.

Ya'll come shoot with us in Atlanta Oct 2-3.  Or, if you just can't wait till then, come to Shreveport August 21-22.  Tell Jim we look forward to seeing him on the range soon.

More later.
