Lincoln, NE June 12/13 2010 AAR

Man, did I have a great time this weekend.  We had our first Lincoln, NE Appleseed hosted by the Lincoln Izaak Walton League.  The club and was awesome to work with and we had a couple of the club’s members show up to shoot their first Appleseed (and one of them took the challenge of Orange Hat after shooting Rifleman).  Saturday started off with a bit of rain and a soggy, muddy range.  But by late morning, the clouds had cleared and the sun came out enough to not only dry out the range, to crank up the humidity, and to cause some sunburns.  The wet morning weather scared off some pre-reges, so we ended up with 20 shooters and 6 instructors (Necede, Squirrel7, HatchetJack, Swampfox7, m4man, and me).   Much fun was had on Saturday and by the end of the day we had gotten through our first AQT with shooters excited to come back on Sunday.  Sunday also started off with some light precipitation, but we got lucky as it again cleared up by late morning.

Here are some pics from the weekend:

Welcome to Appleseed!

Ikes’ old 300’ range was a perfect setting for an Appleseed.

Working on prone position.

The only shade to be found on the range was the umbrella.

Teaching Inches, Minutes, Clicks.

2nd Strike during lunch.

On Sunday we made 3 new Nebraska Riflemen!

Rifleman #1.

Rifleman #2

Rifleman #3 (who was also range contact and who also accepted an Orange hat!)

We even had a cowboy shooter show up.

Here’s the instructor corps for the weekend.  As you can see, Nebraska's Instructor ranks are really growing this year.  And speaking of instructors… Two months ago at the Broken Bow Appleseed, I challenged two IITs to push themselves to a new personal best AQT score.  I challenged m4man to shoot a score of 240+ and Swampfox7 to shoot a score of 220+.  Both shooters have persisted over the last couple months because m4man beat his goal and scored a 245 while Swampfox7 met her challenge with a score of 226.  Nice work you two

I'd like to thank Ikes' Range range for hosting, and both the IITs and the shooters who showed up to make the weekend a success!

I had a great time, and Zombie and the rest of the crew did a great job.  Nebraska got off to a slow start but we're on the way!

Thank you to all of the instructors for your time and energy last weekend. Your lessons helped me improve my scores and even earn a rifleman patch.

I learned a lot and had a great time!   O0

I hope to do it again soon. I'll try to help spread the word to ignite that flame in hearts and minds of others.

Thanks again!

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for a fantastic Appleseed.  I know many will be back and many riflemen will be produced. It was a pleasure to meet Zombiehunter's Mendy.

I'm hopeful well have more UNL students at the next Appleseed at Izaak Walton.  I'm proud of everyone.

Escorted two pre-regs to shoot and then begged for targets and cover.
They opted , at my suggestion to shoot the Red Coat and AQT somewhere assured dry rather than being deliberatly rugged or giving up completly
We are all VERY RUGGED ; Just a bit finicky in our phyisical condition and experience level.

We shot the drills all day at Council Bluffs Rifle and Pistol Club near Crescent Ia.
They gained the gist of the event and we will surely continue to reappear and bring others.
I went only to promote and assist, and accomplished the mission.
They will be badgered until they shoot Rifleman !!
Looks as though the event was smashing.
Thanks for the targets,ECI's and support.
