Wow what a week! Great weather, sunny and 80 during the day, rainy and wet at night. 4 out of 7 showed up for the excellent training. Two were already IIT's and we have (as of today) added two more IIT's to the ranks. One for WY and one for NM. All varients of rifles on the line. More when the time comes

Thanks Colonial for hosting an outstanding RBC. The instructors were great and like always, it's the people you meet that make an AS.  Sorry to miss this weekend's AS that will finish off the week.  I'll post more when I make it back to the home base.

Pictures of this year's Douglas RBC participants and a view down the 600 yd. range (with The Guy's feet to add some perspective).

Here is a quote from M1BZRK:

Douglas - despite the occasional deluge and only 4 enrolled for RBC and 1 for IBC it was very valuable and Carl made Rifleman.  Congratulations! He persevered.  Great job by yourself, The Guy and Von Count.  It says something about the program when people will drive from Illinois (Skyhawk), North Dakota (So Close) and New Mexico (David) to attend an RBC in Wyoming.  Great to see all of the above and B-Line as well. (and of course our newest Appleseeder, Seth, and his Ma).
Understand your Appleseed was well attended and quite successful.  Congrats.

Okay now that I have finally dried out and warmed up here goes:

A great week was had by all the students added another Rifleman to the ranks ( go Carl) verified two IIT's scores at long distance ( skyhawk and SOOOO Close). The Appleseed to follow was just as good. We were blessed with 2.5+ inches of liquid sunshine... However the students arrived ready to get busy in the mud, and were a little disappointed that we had a covered firing line for them. 11 pre regs and 11 students on the line for both days.  Mostly 10/22's on the line, a marlin, a couple of AR's and a bolt gun in .22. 5 riflemen (and women) came out of the bunch. Several more knocking on the door. Three new shooters, made great strides and will be attending another shoot next month to continue their training. I want to thank all the instructors and IIT's that participated: The Guy, The Count, B-line, M1Bzrk, So Close, skyhawk, wildman57 and a surprise visit from Wade. Two new IIT's Dave and Carl ( no screen names yet).

Can you say, "mud"?  Can you say, "rain'?  Can you say, "fun"?  Can you say, "terrific'?

Eleven Appleseed Shooters from the Douglas, WY weekend can say all of that and more.  In fact, we can all say "thank-you"!  What a great group of instructors, encouragers, and story tellers!

I was the old guy with the bolt action .22.  In fact, my rifle was probably older than the next youngest shooter.  To all the other old guys out there I say, "It can be done with a bolt action but it ain't easy." :D

I learned a lot about shooting a rifle.  I learned a lot about our history.  I learned I have more to learn.  I will attend another Appleseed, soon, with an LTR of my own.

Thanks to everyone, instructors and fellow shooters, for a great weekend in the mud and the rain.

It would have been plus to see a little sun shine on one of the two days, but it was a great weekend. Great instruction, great history. Making plans for my next Appleseed and I think the M1A will make the trip next.

Here's the link to the Marlin Owners forum where I spend a fair amount of time.  It's my feeble effort at "educate and recruit."

WSH,

I tried to communicate with the responder in that thread.
Keep her informed, of events in her area. I was unable to access her info

I think you have to be a registered user to post or e-mail from within the forums.  I have been on there so long I forget.

At any rate I will stay active in that thread and respond as best I can.

Colonial,

It's not a she, it's a he.  The avatar is "in memorium."  And I had already replied with some links.  Now PWB is planning what firearm he will take to an Appleseed coming up in his area.  :)

:---What a weekend.  Thanks so much for all the help this weekend making me a better rifleman.   :) Not a cook any more.  O0 The best part of the weekend was not the weather for sure but the new friends I made in just 2 days.  ^:)^  Thanks everyone I had great time and I am planning to attend the week long course next year.

Thanks,

Sorry for the long delay, but better late than never.   Sure feels like a lot more than three weeks have past since the RBC.   For being unemployed, I sure have been busy!

Anyhow here are some of the pictures I got during the RBC.   Enjoy!

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Count, nice pictures! Too bad you didn't get any of the "flash flood" we had on Wed. nite.
There is nothing better than spending your time with a Great bunch of people, that have the same goals on their minds.
I enjoyed my time with all of you. Looking forward to the next time! Hopefully soclose will bring more MRE's to share with all of us; ha, ha.
Congrats too our new rifleman, and IIT's. ChickenHawk, it was great to meet ya, and KUDOS to you for the distance you drove. I hope we got you squared away on the KD range.
