Appleseed really teaches good form apparently.  Those olympians in prone looked like they could have been on the line at Toccoa, same technique.  According to this website

http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/outdoor-activities/snow-sports/biathlon2.htm

It seems that their prone stage is just a little better than 4 moa, while their standing is a little worse than 8 moa.  That cross-country stuff must really make it hard.

Appleseed has really given me an appreciation for shooting sports like this.

Condescension is a GOOD thing.

I agree. It looked like the were not shifting NPOA. It would be nice to have that quick cuff.  They got in position very quickly and seemed to have their NPOA right off the bat.

Looks like great fun.
Run 10 miles while periodically stopping to shoot a stage of the AQT.
Don't know if any of you have every done a serious assault course but getting that breath back under control after every sprint is a serious issue.
They are to be applauded.
Serious athletes with excellent body control.

Maybe that should be part of a boot camp.   A lap through the woods between each stage......  >:D

Those .22s are silly. $2000 rifles that don't shoot much better than a 10/22.   I've decided I want to try this sport out.  Luckily there is a novice event nearby Minneapolis.  I'm bringing my M14.   Better bring the 10/22 in case the .30 startles the other shooters.

What brings together men liberated from local and national limitations is also what keeps them apart. What pushes for greater rationality is also what nourishes the irrationality of hierarchical exploitation and repression.  What creates society's abstract power also creates its concrete unfreedom.

Every August in Pecos Texas is the Run-N-Gun in the sun biathlon.  It's hosted by the Pecos Gun Club.

The course is 6 miles cross country and it has a shooting station every 2 miles.

It's a good course.  It will let you know what you and your equipment are made of.

SamD is right, after running a couple of miles in the desert, that "3rd step" becomes incredibly difficult.

For some strange reason, once you torture yourself in this event, you keep coming back for more.

Yeah, I didn't notice them shifting NPOA between targets either, but it's incredible shooting anyway.  I heard the standing target is the size of a grapefruit and the prone target is the size of a golf ball, and they're shooting at 50 meters (twice our distance).  Makes me want to try it...   :)

My cousin is coming to his first Appleseed next weekend.  We've been hunting together all our lives and he's always seemed to me to be a "natural".  I'm really interested to see how he does.  All that is to say that he thinks we should run a Spring Olympics biathlon out on the farm.  He said we should run downhill (to make it fair for us old farts) and then have to stop and shoot.  I told him if his college age sons run it with us we could make them run uphill to shoot to even it out.  He said, "Yeah, uphill carrying a tractor tire."   ;D

The rules are rifles must weigh 3.5Kg min, 5 shot mag, irons, and 22Lr.

Notice the nice short stroke on the bolt?  They look like straight pulls.  The trigger hand doesnt leave the stock to cock.

Inspired by the Biathlon I went cross-country skiing 3 days ago.

After an hour of that, I think I'll stick to the shooting part.

I'm still on a regiment of ibuprofen!

That makes the prone tgt 3.6 MOA and the standing 9 MOA
average engagement times are running 7-8 seconds.
Pretty decent shooting. The big issue is the body/respiration control.

Lots of training there. They need more shooting in the Olympics. I often wonder how many of these people have to train outside of their country.
