FWIW, I use the .223 and 7.62x54r Prvi match ammo and it is very good  O0  How it shoots in your .308 is a matter of what your rifle likes, but I can tell you it is better than standard military ball.  How far?  How far do you want to shoot?  After all, we riflemen are effective to 500 with rack grade rifles and ball ammo  :~

Hi Wade!
The 168's will do much better against the wind than a GI bullet, as well as being much more accurate at longer ranges. For 1000 yards you might want to try the 175 grain Matchking bullet in domestic match ammo. Much better than the 168 as close as 600. Also I have heard that the Lapua Scenar 155 is even better than the 175, though I think they are a handloading proposition.

Wade,
If you want to shoot 1000 y., you want to make sure the .308 ballistics allow you to be supersonic at that range.  To  be sure, you can use our local ballisticians webpage, http://www.jbmballistics.com/~jbm/cgi-bin/jbmtraj_simp-5.0.cgi and plug in the bullets, velocities and your weather data.   I think a 175 grain bullet will be on the hairy edge of going subsonic out there.  JMHO.

Blue Feather and I use it in our M96 Swedes. Hard hitting and accurate. High quality stuff.
It is calibrated perfectly for the Swede's original sights and we have cleaned the 500M Rams and made hits on the 1000M Buffalo at the NRA Whittington Center.
Haven't tried the 308. in my M1A as I use the Nato stuff.
The PP 6.5 was not being imported last time I checked my sources.

I've used this load with success, but as per usual standard disclaimer, start low and work up! There's not much new under the sun when it comes to M-14 loads because you have to work within the limits of the gas system so you don't bend an op-rod, etc, whereas you can play all day with boltgun loads.

I only use USGI brass.(LC,RA,WCC,FA,FC)

Resized and trimmed to 2.005
Primer pocket cleaned and swaged/reamed if needed. LC Match or FA Match brass dosn't need swaging/reaming.
Primer: Winchester Large Rifle (CCI#34s also work, but be advised may increase pressure over the WLRs..again, work up!)
Powder: H-4895 42.0grns or Varget 41.5grns
Bullit: 175 Sierra MatchKing or 178 Hornady A-MAX.
Coal 2.830" (still fits magazine).

M/V is approx. 2600fps and still running almost 1200fps at 1000yds.

168s go transonic at about 800, so you're going to lose accuracy past that. Have not tried Lapua 155 Scenars.

Those 1000 yard loads are great in a bolt gun but will severely strain the action of a Garand. I've never eaten a bolt but I'm not sure I want to either. The M1 Garand was never meant to shoot anything heavier than a 155 gr. bullet.  Yes, I've fired 190 gr. HPBT Sierra's in a Garand but it was a match conditioned and balanced Garand  and the gunsmith that built the rifle loaded the cartridges. He also warned us that if the gas port was obstructed the rifle would blow up. I was in my early 20's and knew I would live forever so it didn't matter to me. The gunsmith tore down the rifles and inspected them after 20 rounds of the high pressure stuff.

Sorry Wade, 168's run out of steam beyond 800 yards or so depending on conditions. You will be disappointed trying to shoot any 168 load at 1000 yards. Including the excellent PP cartridge you asked about.

Before Sierra brought out the 175, the Marine Corps Rifle Team was using 190's out of their long range only M14's. Sure it beat the rifles up, but you don't shoot that many rounds at long range in a season and they had lots of M14's. During all this time, the 168 was the Gold standard for 600 yards and less.

The 175 at 2600fps or maybe a little faster is a good 1000 yard performer, but requires a reloader to get the cartridge done right. This speed is easy to attain and won't beat up your M1A.

Good luck.

Wade,
If you're looking at the loaded Privi ammo, it should be good stuff. The only problem I've had with it was with the 150gr stuff. It was on the large edge of tolerance for 7.62 headspace and I've got a .308 AR with a tight chamber. About 30% of the rounds would not chamber in my rifle. The rounds that did were fine & the person who wound up buying it all from me was apparently happy with it.

The answer has been given, but I'll reiterate.  They likely won't be adequate for 1000 because the bullet will likely hit the the trans sonic barrier around 800-900, which causes the bullet's flight to become unpredictable.

The likely bullet candidates would be the Sierra 155 or 175 Matchkings or the AMax.  I would personally not go heavier than 175 grains in an M1A.  The 155 grain Palma bullet may be the ticket for 1000 in an M1A.

You could use the less expensive bullet for everything else.

FWIW, the Prvi Partizan .308 match ammo turned out to be the most accurate (factory-loaded) round I've seen fired out of my FN .308 bolt action.

Wade,
I fired a service rifle match with PPU last month.  I used the 168 at 300 and the 175 at 600.  It worked well for me in my M1A and a great price compared to FGMM when it is not on sale.  If I was at 1000YD Id try the XM versus the PPU 175 and see what worked best.  My clicks for 300 to 600 I went up 9 not the normal comeups but works for me.  It was good stuff but Im sure its not like FGMM.  Additionally, their 175 is not BTHP like the 168 it is a solid.
