As a disabled vet who is trying to get that magic 210, I found a new device. I just could not get that magazine out and another in during the 50 second timed shooting during the middle of the AQT, but alas I found the answer at E. Arthur Brown Company, (eabco.com) it is called the Tactical Ruger 10/22 Lever Magazine Release, and boy does it work great, takes about a minute to install, just remove the action from the stock, drift out the pin holding the magazine release, lift out the release and install the new lever in its place, reinstall the pin, check your rifle just to see if it is clean  ;D and reinstall the action in the stock. Those  !@#) little magazines just fall right out, making my arthritic hands let out a big sigh of relief ^-^! They come in  Matte Black or Brushed Aluminum, and since I did not order anything else cost $34.00 plus 8.95 s&h, and worth every penny! Bet I will be knocking on that 210 tomorrow!

The extended mag releases can be found for less; my Christie's cost $8. But you are correct, they work great.

If I may suggest a couple of other modifications you can do?

Make sure the side of the mag well clears the mag; you should be able to slide at least a business card on either side; more is better. If there is any binding, sand the mag well until there is.

Make sure the front, inside of the mag well is free of all paint, etc. Polish the sloped 'ramp' if it is not already.

Radius the top of the hex head screw on the front of the mag. It only takes a small bevel, 1/16" or so.

My mags, with these mods, will drop out even with the rifle pointing all most straight up.

I put a TacSol lever on our 10/22, and a Ti extended lever on the 77/22.  Great modification!  Ruger shoulda made that standard instead of the nasty recessed button...

I have the bolt lock back installed on my 10/22. All I do is lock the bolt back (use thumb to pull back bolt, use middle finger to push in the bolt lock), push in the mag release with my thumb, stick my index finger into the ejection port and push down on the empty mag and it pops out. Left elbow never leaves the mat. Insert new mag, rack the bolt and go. No 10/22 finger yet either. ;)
Yeah, this technique works best for right handed users.

The $8 works better than the recessed factory, but the Tactical Solutions is really slick.  Cabelas stocks them in their stores also.  You don't need it, but I agree with okiewino that they work great! O0

Sounds like a lot of extra steps to change a mag.

If it's a 2 round mag I fire 1 shot drop the mag insert the next one and never touch the bolt handle. Left elbow never leaves the mat. That's just for the 22 autoloaders and the AR's.  M1 and bolt rifles still require more operator intervention to get through the course of fire.
