I was wringing out my latest CMP M1 today with HXP ammo in en blocks marked SF.  After 4 rounds complete, the en bloc and remaining rounds ejected, the clip and 4 live rounds land on my head.  Anyone experience the same?  Is it the rifle, the clips or the ammo?

Sounds like you need a new clip latch spring and possibly a new clip latch. Start with the spring; Fulton Armory makes one that's heavy duty and runs for around 5 FRNS the normal ones run a little less. While you're at it you might want to buy backups for all the springs, a couple extractors, and a firing pin or two.

Ben's looking at the right parts. Start with the spring, look at the clip latch end that is in side the mag well and holds the notch in the clip. It should be fairly square and not rounded. I've had this happen a lot with CMP rifles. The parts are 60 years old and well used in most cases. It sounds like you have a good clip eject spring. Look at the 23-5 manual for a trouble shooting guide.http://www.90thidpg.us/Reference/Manuals/index.html

Thanks for the pointers.  I'll start with the spring and pick up a few extra parts while I'm at it.
