Ames, IA had a beautiful weekend for heritage, liberty and marksmanship!  Despite gloomy predictions from the weather service all week prior, the temp and conditions were ideal for a standard 25m rifle clinic at the Ames Izaak Walton League.

Saturday began with the arrival of eight instructors and eleven students.  Instructors met at 7:30 am and immediately got to work to make the range ready.  By 8:30am, students were checked in and being welcomed by the shoot boss.  Throughout Saturday, students heard the three strikes of the match and improved their marksmanship.  Everyone saw improvement - both in marksmanship and knowledge of our heritage.

On Sunday, the students reviewed what they learned the day before and continued to improve their marksmanship.  Several instructors also took opportunity to bring rifles and on Sunday afternoon, shoot along with the students.

At the end of the day, we took time to review liberty and our heritage.  We also took time to acknowledge and award rifleman patches!  Congratulations to Joseph and John for re-qualifying rifleman.  And extra congratulations to three brand new rifleman patch-holders:  Cody Ray (225), Jeff (225), and Ian (213).

At the end of our event, we also invite qualified students to join the ranks of Appleseed Volunteers.  Congratulations to Izzy for taking an Applecore Blue Hat!  Welcome aboard!

What a great weekend! I loved the enthusiasm from both the shooters and instructors. To top it off, Mark lead us all in three Huzzah's to end the event!

I want to thank you all again for hosting such a great educational and fun event this weekend. Thank you Shannon again for the use of your rifle and to everyone for the extra attention in teaching me to shoot left handed using my dominate eye. It is all greatly appreciated!
I look forward to doing the next class in a month or two. If I can apply enough positive peer pressure and motivation. Around 3-6 friends of my should be joining in the next few classes. Apparently one of them is already an Orange Hat in Project Appleseed.

P.S. Researching which rifle to bring and do the "Known Distance" course with.

It was a good time. I thought the shooters all did really well.
