Wonderful fall weather in southern Indiana.  4 shooters, all first-time, Appleseeders, made it to our inaugural event at Likens Shooting Academy.  We had some folks from as close as Louisville and a little farther away in Columbus, Indiana, and one work-traveler from FL.  Everyone came ready to learn about our shared American Heritage and Marksmanship.

We had a delay on setting up our firing line.  So, in true Appleseed manner, we kicked off the morning by sharing all 3 strikes of the match.  We moved to the range and got everything setup.  A safety brief helped set the tone for how we handle our rifles.  Our first Hits Count Target showed there was a lot of room for improvement.  As we moved through the instruction, groups got smaller.  We had a line filled with 10/22s all topped with Tech-Sights.  This was a first for me.  Once we got groups down to a manageable size, IMC was presented and adjustments made.  Some sighters proved this method works.

After completing all of our planned topics, everyone had great-looking targets.  I am impressed by how well this course of fire can incrementally improve shooters' skills.  Glen, Justin, YY, and Leo all did great.  They pitched to help set everything up, endured through a lot of exercises, learned Rifleman's Yoga, shot a lot, discovered a lot about themselves and each other, and seemed to have a generally great time.  Huzzah!

We closed out the day with another Hits Count Target and saw tremendous improvement.  The morning target only had one person with 3 hits on 100.  We ended with 2 hitting the shingle and one cleared it to 300.  What a great way to show of improvement.

I want to thank Jason Liken for the use of this great range.  He has a strong firearms training background.  Hearing his feedback on our program and instruction was good.  I look forward to expanding our use of his facility.  My instructor crew was small for this one.  It was me and JHB.  She is a great supporter and partner in what we do to save our nation.  I could not travel as much as we do without her help.

Shooters, Glen, YY, Justin, and Leo, thank you for spending the day with us.  You could have done a lot of other things with your Sunday.  I appreciate the fact that you came to hear our message and learn the finer points of marksmanship.  I am encouraged by meeting such patriotic people. Remember, dry-fire is the best way to improve.  I look forward to seeing most of you at our next event in the area.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy
