Catch-10-22

Great 200-yard Rimfire Known Distance yesterday in Sudlersville on Maryland's Eastern Shore. We had a group with mixed experience levels but a lot of excitement about the experience of learning a new set of skills at long range.

Summers in Maryland can be very hot and humid, but we were lucky enough for the remains of the hurricane to push out the humidity while not drenching us with rain. It was still hot and sunny and the weather did make it hard on the shooters and instructors.

We started out at the 50-yard line to establish our initial zero and test scope tracking with a few basic drills (box drill, vertical squares target) then conducted the core instruction at the covered 200-yard line to give folks a break from the sun and heat.

After history at lunch, the group started the process of confirming zero at each of the ranges. We saw some good groups as our participants took extensive notes based on target feedback and documented their Data on Personal Equipment (DOPE).

Our students then confirmed zero at 200 yards before we kicked off our first RKD AQT of the day. To save walking, we started at 200 and worked backwards toward the 50 yard line. We then conducted a second AQT from 50 back to 200.

Grant H had the high score of the weekend - a 47 with a loaner rifle, one shy of distinguished - HUZZAH! John S was able to earn his KD Rocker with a 40 out of 50, after missing by one point at the last Marriottsville shoot - he proved that a Rifleman Persists!

Our other shooters came up short but showed real improvement throughout the day. I hope each one returns to try again. I would recommend each attend an additional 25m Appleseed event - the skills we teach at 25m are critical to effective performance during a KD.

Oh, I should not forget our 125 yard shots at Morgan's Shingle: Grant and John once again showed they know what they are about and earned their patches. Red Hat Liberty Boy hit it twice for good measure.

Volunteer Off_Paper deployed his target camera system again so that shooters could get target feedback on their cell phones. Thanks also go to Cat Gravity, Agent 711, Liberty Boy, and K3 for making the event a success!!!

Many thanks to our host range DSA in Sudlersville and to the two club reps (including the president!) who signed up for the event. Access to a 200 yard range in Maryland is pretty tough and the range is ideal for the event - we are glad to be back after a short break.
