Tennessee Beast

We were very fortunate to have a sold out shoot Memorial Day weekend!  We were especially lucky because the rain that was expected stopped before the first target of the day. Speaking of that first target (Hits Count), we had two folks that cleared it (Don B and Brian B).  Huzzah!  Individual stock fitting followed instruction of 6 Steps, NPOA, and the prone position.  This was time well spent because the first squares showed great groups from many students.  The history was well presented and the students seemed to enjoy it...based on questions that followed. Carding the sights seemed to be an "ah ha" moment for many students.  By the end of the day, the Hits Count target showed dramatic marksmanship improvement (8 shingle shots vs. 6 earlier).

The students seemed to have soaked up the instruction overnight because 4 students cleared Sunday morning's Hits Count target and the first squares targets looked amazing.  The ball and dummy drill pointed out some great coaches as well as helped students with some of the errors that they were unaware of. On our first AQT of the day, we had two Riflemen requalify (Bren B-240 Distinguished and Aaron B-233). Maximum Ordinate gave a great Known Distance presentation and the students asked a lot of questions.  We then moved the targets out to 100 yards to allow the students an opportunity to put those skills to practice. Our next 3 AQT's proved we had several men and women that "knew what they were about" :  Holly S-238, Don B.-several in 240's...high of 248, Kendall B-226, Brian B-215, Tijs G.-220, Craig J.-210, and Steve Z.-249.  Special shout outs to Tijs who made Rifleman on his first AQT ever and Craig G. for scoring Rifleman at his first event...with a centerfire rifle (since he scored exactly 210 points he was baptized with GENUINE water from the North Bridge).  3 Huzzahs for Steve Z. on the high score of the event (and his personal best).

At the end of the event, I took a moment to mention how much tncolonel (Claude Morse) meant to Project Appleseed (especially in TN)...and how his legacy continues by continuing to host events at this range.  This was the first event at this range since his passing.  He is greatly missed!!!!

It was a pleasure to work with all of you!  I hope you come back sometime or try one of our other events.

In giving us dominion over the animal kingdom, God has signified His will that we subdue the beast within ourselves.
John Lancaster Spalding

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin, 1775

"A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies."  George Washington 1790

"[T]o preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them…"
- Richard Henry Lee, Declaration Signer

It was a good time.  I'm also very glad the weather that was forecasted held off and didn't drench us.

I'll go to another one sometime and try for that "distinguished" patch again.  4 points away this time, so I'm close.  Gotta get that kneeling worked out.
Welcome to Tennessee, the patron state of shootin' stuff.
