Marion Road Gun Club in Macon, Georgia hosted a one-day Appleseed clinic on 20 May 2023 for the young men of Trail Life.  Nine youth and three fathers came out on an overcast but pleasant day for rifle marksmanship and American history.

After introduction and a safety brief, students shot their first redcoat to gage their skill level. A couple shooters showed they were effective at 100 yards, another at 300 yards and one skilled shooter made the difficult shingle shot!  We rolled right into instruction, teaching steady hold factors, six steps of the shot and natural point of aim, each lesson put into immediate practice with a drill to follow.

Throughout the day, shooters heard the true story of April 19th, 1775 through the telling of the Three Strikes of The Match. Shooters heard the history of Paul Revere's ride, Lexington and Concord, learning that we are the inheritors and stewards of liberty and freedom purchased at high personal cost.

The students were very engaged and attentive, asking questions often as they soaked up the knowledge. The instructor cadre was impressed with such a fine group of young men. At least a few of the youth were experienced in archery and demonstrated that those skills can apply to rifle marksmanship. Several were able to land a majority of hits in the black 4 MOA practice squares. Huzzah!

Instruction was given on talking targets, Inches, Minutes and Clicks and firing in rifleman's cadence. Targets paid the price as shooters learned and applied the fundamentals of shooting in the seated and standing positions.

An Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT) was shot Saturday afternoon. Several scored well over 100 points, impressive for first-time Appleseeders!

Ridge, Cai, Finn, Allen, William, Aeden, Jackson, Jonathan and Connor, thank you for coming out to Appleseed. We hope you learned a lot and we encourage you to continue your rifleman journey.
Tell your friends what you learned and invite them to a future shoot.

Kyle, Ben and Jeremy, thanks for bringing these find young men to the shoot. You have a great program in Trail Life and I believe we agree that Project Appleseed is a good fit for your activities. Please share your experience with other troops.

Thanks to Marion Road Gun Club for your continued support of Project Appleseed and youth shooting. Thank you all, shooters, for your teachable attitudes and enthusiasm. It was an honor and a privilege to work with you. We hope to see you again on the trail.
"Nevertheless, to the persecution and tyranny of his cruel ministry we will not tamely submit -- appealing to Heaven for the justice of our cause, we determine to die or be free."

Wow! What an exhausting, but rewarding day. It is always such a blast to work with the Trail Life crew. Watching the spirit of Liberty ignite in the young shooters' eyes made every drop of sweat well worth it. The only thing possibly as bright as that were the grins on their faces. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in the future. Either at our other events or another troop gathering. Maybe a 2 day next time.  ;) We have LOTS more stories to tell AND targets to shoot.  :--- Thank you all for coming and thank you to Marion Road for always being such gracious hosts.
