Our first Appleseed event in 2023 at the Hobbs Island Shooting Range was a success!  Six shooters decided to get off the couch and spend the weekend immersed in marksmanship and heritage.  We started off the event with the telling of the events of April 19, 1775 on Lexington Green.  Then after learning the safety rules, rifles were brought to the line and we established a baseline using the Hits Count target!  Instruction and drills followed, all aimed at building and mastering the skills necessary for the Appleseed Qualification Test.  We heard about the fight at the North Bridge in Concord, and later the fight at Merriam's Corner that started it all. 

Sunday morning we quickly got back into the groove.  After a brief review that had plenty of shooter participation, we shot another Hits Count target where the scores were much improved.  Maybe yesterday's instruction helped?  Afterwards we shot several sighter squares and did a few more drills.  How did you like Ball and Dummy?  We shot our first AQT and then took a break for lunch.  Several stories of Dangerous Old Men (and Women) were shared, then we had a preview of the material covered at Appleseed Known Distance events. 

We got serious with AQTs after lunch.  Ben was our first Rifleman (score of 219), followed by John A (score of 214).  Huzzah!  Several other shooters were knocking at the door.  Practice at home and you'll get that patch at your next Appleseed.
