The weather forecast for the Finleyville event last weekend was not good.  Chip, Craig, Jeff and Sean were not deterred by the grim forecast of showers and thunderstorms, which fortunately did not happen.  After some opening remarks and the Safety Briefing they shot a Redcoat target to get a baseline on their current skill level and familiarity with their rifles.  The results were encouraging, with all four students showing an effective range of at least 100 yards.  Chip made all thirteen shots count, showing an effective range of 400 yards.

We moved on through the course of instruction on marksmanship.  The targets reflected great improvement for our two students who were new to Appleseed, and proficiency for our two experienced Appleseeders.  bcurfman shared the Three Strikes of the Match in his usual engaging style.  Thanks, Bruce for making the long drive!  The first AQT of the weekend and a Redcoat target wrapped things up.  The Redcoat target showed solid improvement, with two students showing 400 yard capability and three hitting Morgan's Shingle!

We arrived Sunday to a misty drizzle that stayed with us throughout our Safety Briefing and initial Redcoat target.  Then the skies dried up, with the cloud cover occasionally clearing to reveal SUNSHINE, which is a rare and precious commodity in this part of the world lately.  The students honed their skills on the AQT, with an occasional marksmanship drill, history lesson or marksmanship instruction thrown in to break up the monotony.

When all was said and done, Chip had shot several Rifleman scores, including a high of 245 (Distinguished!), Sean made progress toward his goal of earning his Rifleman patch with iron sights, with a high of 197 (A Rifleman Persists!), and Jeff had spent some quality time with his rifle, cheerfully and persistently learning the tricks of shooting a right-handed rifle left-handed.  With such a great attitude, I'm sure his marksmanship will continue to improve.  Craig made steady progress on Saturday, but was unable to rejoin us on Sunday.  We hope to see him at another Appleseed soon.  And thanks for the brass, Craig!

Also, thanks to Mingo Rod & Gun Club for supporting Project Appleseed and hosting us again this year!  If their plans to expand the Rifle range to 200 yards work out, maybe we have another venue for a 200 yard Rimfire KD in 2023.

Craig here. Sorry I missed the second day of this event, I had an unexpected personal issue come up. Everything is fine now.

This was my first Appleseed and it was a great experience. EZ3 was a wonderful shoot boss and bcurfman was a great instructor, providing me a lot of helpful feedback when attempting the basic shooting positions. It was also great to talk to the other participants, who were all friendly and had some helpful advice of their own.

I will definitely be recommending Appleseed to my friends and will be on the lookout for future events at this location. Thanks for the great time everyone!

Glad to hear everything is OK, and thanks for the kind words.  We will look forward to seeing you at another Appleseed.  Definitely bring some friends, there is plenty of room on the line for more students!
