I want the Tippmann Unicorn

I've really come down with the wants for a Tippmann. But I want the Unicorn, the Elite Hunter A101211 but there isn't one to be found. That leads to I really want the Appleseed Tippmann as I like the logo on it and sling mounted and second magazine. But I do not like the handguard. I want Unicorn #2, that exact thing on the Elite Tactical A101032. Yikes, just looked and the better handguard is $139.95 by itself. Such major dilemmas in life. :wb:

I have the Tippmann Elite. It is a great rifle. Accurate and reliable with standard velocity ammo. I've not run it through an AQT or event yet but I see no reason it or other Tippmann rifles wouldn't perform admirably. If I hadn't found mine locally for sale I would have probably bought the Appleseed version. The Elite Hunter appears on a bunch of people's want lists as I see folks on other forums asking about them.

My son shoots an elite hunter side-folding version. He is tall and has long arms, so the longer hand guard suits him well. We also swapped the stock for a Magpul PRS lite. He consistently shoots in the 235 range with it.  Side folding is nice for fitting in a rifle bag for transport.

I just emailed my FFL friend to order the 101032. Should be here before the end of the week. I guess this is my new candy store. More expensive but doesn't push the borderline diabetic button. :)

Well worth the money. I haven't picked up my Ruger in years now.

Semi off-topic and likely boring. Warning given. I'm awful for trading cars sometimes in just months. But I got my current Honda Ridgeline 13 months ago and have no interest in looking at anything else. I'm hoping this Tippmann is going to have the same effect for rimfires.

Fulcrum

Hopefully you've found your Honda Ridgeline of .22lr rifles.

LDB415

Yes, that's what I'm hoping. I have a feeling that may be going to happen. Hope it's correct. From what I read online it seems there's a good chance. And if friendly helpfulness is the key I've found the same here with Appleseed.

For those who have a Tippmann especially but everyone, is there a list somewhere of parts it's good to have on hand for just in case? Springs, pins, etc. that hopefully are never needed but just in case? I can see best case having to wait a few days on delivery and worst case out of stock and waiting a few weeks on resupply versus going to a parts box and getting what you need. Then you're just stuck waiting on the replacement which hopefully won't matter.

NJrefugee

The operating parts are proprietary, so you'd have to get pin and bolt parts from Tippmann. That said, I have never seen an issue with them and I have tons of rounds through several rifles.

We generally replace the butt stock and in some cases the trigger. And if you find that the buffer system is noisy or rough, I have a fix for that. Otherwise, just feed it a steady diet of CCI SV and you should be good.

That's interesting and good to know. I thought they were typical AR and the same as any other AR on the planet. I found Resilient Arms a day or two ago and they have a parts kit made up for the Gen 3, well all of them I guess, but mine will be Gen 3. I'll probably get that and tuck it away. But I'm glad to hear I'm probably wasting my time doing so.

So now that this rifle is on the way, are you going to be able to get it set up for your event? Got your USGI sling, swivels, and mounts? Got at least 2, preferably 4, ideally 6 mags? Will you have time to shoot it beforehand and work out any bugs?

I have 4 10's and 2 25's. I have to order an M-Loc device for the forend and find a cotton sling in stock. I plan to go Thu. or Fri. and shoot it, barring alien interference. I need to find and order a good case for it. When I can afford it I'll get the AR scope from the store website. I've got the magazine loader ordered and on the way already.

I have no clue how it works yet, but I figured use the 25's standing and have the 10's for not standing. I may order a few more 10's anyway. I need to check that site for a case and sling also. Midway has a presumably good case for it.

LDB415

Got called from my FFL friend. Emailed him saying order it Sun. night and he found it and replied Mon. morning 05:42. He got it after lunch. I picked it up an hour ago. So from order to pickup 34-35 hours. Not bad at all. Got the extra magazines this morning. Magazine loader still in transit. Now to sort and decide the other things and get them ordered.

Fulcrum

That is a fast turnaround! In CA, you would be starting your 10-day waiting period now. Maybe that's why it seems to me time is so short.

This is the site where I've bought my slings. It's down for maintenance currently. https://ammogarand.com/

LDB415

It is astonishingly fast. Usually when I order through my FFL friend it is 4-5 days total. I was hoping for a miraculous 3 this time so I could maybe go to the range Thu. or Fri. Now I just need the magazine loader to show up before then. I'll check that site for a sling. I'd like to buy the one from the store but their shipping is so high.

Fulcrum

Your April event must be coming up soon. Have you got your rifle set up yet? How does it shoot?

LDB415

The rifle is getting there, the outing not. A recent range trip convinced me I do not have a full range day, especially with up/down to positions, in me. I'm shifting to thoughts of the pistol clinic. Being all upright it will be more manageable and I believe there are periods of sitting and listening interspersed. And no multiple down/up. Just working on logistics of a 700 mile round trip to where the pistol clinic is held and hoping one magically shows up on the schedule of one of the much closer ranges.

The rifle is a HOOT! One outing and lots of fun. I should be able to finish adjusting the sights on the next outing. And will have all the sling bits by the end of the week I think, or early next week. It is just going to be seriously FUN whenever I get to take it out. Very glad to have made that purchase.

I'm glad to hear the rifle is coming along and you are enjoying it!

I'd like to encourage you to still go to the rifle clinic, despite your concerns. You will have fun, you will learn new things, you'll meet nice people, and you don't need to worry about making it through a full day or being able to do all the positions. Nobody cares if you have limitations, and they are there to meet you where you are at and make accommodations. This isn't the Olympic tryouts or a competition of any kind.

I saw this after action report last week. https://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=71304.0 Take a look at the pictures. There is a gentleman using an accommodation and getting personalized help from staff. They know how to do it.

Of course, you should do whatever you think best for yourself, but I'd encourage you to reach out to your shoot boss for your event and mention your concerns about the length of the day and the shooting positions. Send them a message through the forum, or email. See what they say. You've put so much into figuring out your perfect dream rifle, I'd hate to see you miss out on the event based on assumptions about how physically demanding it will be. It can certainly be a long day, but you can take a break anytime you want and cut it short if need be. You won't be reported AWOL or get dishonorably discharged!

Fulcrum is absolutely correct. We go out of our way to make sure people can participate.

Don't think that you will need the agility of a gymnast - you don't.

The main thing is to just show up, learn a few things, and hear some stories of the day we officially became Americans - and not subjects of the King. And you can sit out a 'course of fire' or two and just hang out. You'll meet some great people and have some fun. And learn.

I already had emailed and said to give my spot to someone who could better use it. I'm sure Chad is sick of hearing from me by now. :)

Dmthomp32

That's a bummer LDB. My father in law won't come to an event with me because he is worried about the position changes and up/down as well. I can tell you like others that as a participant and as an instructor accommodations are made for nearly everyone's needs. One of my regulars Steve, has a hard time (back issues) getting up from prone. We all pitch in to help him up and allow him to start in position (has to wait until the first shot is fired). Despite everything Steve is a great shooter and awesome participant. If you get the chance do a 25m clinic, shooters and instructors alike will be ready to support you!
