Just an update: As of noon today (results from Friday) there were several rim fire KD qualifiers.  I want to congratulate Raggedy Edge and Regular Guy for scoring 40 out of 50 :snipersmi Mark Davis (who is also acting as SB) shot a 48. Nice job to all of you guys.

As much as I hate to say... Health is killing me, so I was unable to finish out the day. But before I left there were lots of folks (8) working their dope to start the Full distance. Also many IITs working on their PCs. Good job to sleepy, airmed15, and regular guy who were running the line as I departed.

Our host Laramie Rifle range , this year constructed this bay because of our needs. It is beautifully set up so that you can shoot all distances from one firing position. Wind socks at each target line also. Rex (a board member says that in addition to our target lines there are 52 sets of gongs throughout the canyon. It is a great venue that we will surely use again. More to come !!

Laramie Rifle Range 10-12August 2018 After Action Report

I can sum up the inaugural 3day Laramie RFKD/KD with one word: WOW!
Thanks to Laramie Rifle Range for hosting us - and beyond that, for modifying their range to accomodate an Appleseed KD.  A lot of work went into this as sleepy and I can attest as we went over several times for "work days".
Rex, Jacob, Owen and other club members really did a great job.  Because it's in a canyon, the 200 target line had to be offset on the far side (I hope some of the photos will show this) and this involved moving & digging in 12x12 bridge timbers.
I want to thank Project Appleseed for supporting our involvement with the range - especially DrRichP and Sam.

I want to thank all the Instructors who showed up:
regularguy,Airmed15,MarathonGirl,Wildman57,homemaker,
raggedyedge, Mr.Aufbau, sleepy and Mark Davis (who came all the way from Montana to SB).

Rocket and Zano had life interfere and couldn't make it.  Our RC, colonial shooter, despite his health came out and cheered us on.

Congratulations to all who qualified, with scores of 41 to 45: Mark D., Mark L., Chrystal, Dan and Jacob.
Thanks, Dan for proving my rifle is KD qualified.
You all are proof that persistence pays.  Thanks for the good example.  Those of us who are as-of-now not KD qualified, take heart & Persist.
Thanks to Rick for yeoman service running the line and for the information about Timothy Murphy.
As co-state coordinator, I couldn't be more pleased.  We are off to a good start on getting Wyoming Instructor Cadre KD Qualified!
If you live anywhere nearby, support Laramie Rifle Range.
Already looking forward to the next event here.
Thanks to all.
Hopefully pictures will follow.

Great shoot!

Any excuse to use the canyon range automatically means a great time, with firing points out to a thousand yards and steels out to 1200, and raised platforms. Up in the hills, near the canyon range, is the Rimfire Trail, set up for movement and firing. Also available are ranges for pistol, rifle sighting-in (100 yds), shotgun, rimfire, and archery, and indoor plumbing; all down closer to the main road. Events, including (but not limited to) PRL, 3-Gun, NRA classes, and 2-day Appleseed Clinics are offered. Camping can be available, with prior arrangements.

But a chance to see my fellow Appleseed instructors in action at full range is truly priceless. With few exceptions, I believe everyone qualified. The exceptions were due to:

a] mechanical failures. An Appleseed is a great test for both man and equipment. A lot of what we learn isn't on the COF LOL!

b] a stubborn & proud old man. SOMEBODY refused to accept the adaptive position waivers, and insists on doing it the right way despite physical issues. This was truly in the minimalist spirit of Fred's earlier teachings, and makes me ashamed for my own shortcomings & willingness to accept the easy way out.

This shoot was a great shakedown for our new Appleseed range complex (within an existing range complex) having a single firing line with 100, 200, 300, and 400 meter target lines; and a Rimfire KD range with moving firing lines at 25, 50, 75, and 100 meters to allow for training with elevation changes at a reduced cost. Best of all, plenty of wind challenges are built into the course, courtesy of Mother Nature, to increase the challenge and training value.

After we work out the scarily few bugs discovered, I'll look forward to our next KD, which should be open to all who have attended any two-day Appleseed clinic, and will be posted on both the events and KD listings.

This complex came courtesy of Laramie Rifle Range sweat & love, with some Appleseed dollars & sweat supporting. Everyone wins!

Any rifleman wishing to join the Laramie Rifle Range ($85-), or to come up as a guest ($10-), is making a smart choice. If you live within a day's travel, it's a great destination (shooting) vacation spot.
