If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. (James Madison)

"Young man, what we meant in going for those Redcoats was this: we always had governed ourselves and we always meant to. They didn't mean we should."
(Captain Levi Preston, of the Danvers militia, at age 91, remembering the day)

That it is an indispensable duty which we owe to God, our country, ourselves and posterity, by all lawful ways and means in our power to maintain, defend and preserve those civil and religious rights and liberties, for which many of our fathers fought, bled and died, and to hand them down entire to future generations.  Suffolk Resolves, September 9, 1774, attributed to Dr. Joseph Warren

On the last weekend of July 2014 Project Appleseed Instructors fisherdawg, eagleriver, Taka222, 509gaman, AlaskaRed and smokepole traveled to the Majority Arms LLC Range near milepost 78 on the Sterling Highway outside Soldotna for a day Rifle Marksmanship and Heritage Event.  O0
We were joined by 7 fine, patriotic Americans - 1 adult and 6 youth on a beautiful Saturday morning.   ;D They had all arrived early so we started before with an Administrative and Safety Briefing.  Shortly they shot the Hits Count - Red Coat to target to establish a baseline.  We found 1 qualified 200 yard shooter in the group. The rest fell to the bayonet.  :slap:
So, we commenced the fire hose of Instruction on the fundamentals - Sling Use, Steady Hold Factors, Six Steps of Firing the Shot, Talking Targets, Shot Group Analysis, Inches-Minutes-Clicks, Natural Point of Aim and more.  ~~:)
Lunch brought the Heritage as fisherdawg and 509gman shared the First & Second Strikes of the Match.  The afternoon brought more instruction and the addition of Seated/Kneeling Positions, Transitions and Standing. A break allowed fisherdawg to tell the Third Strike. After the shooters attempted the AQT and then shot a final Red Coat.  That Red Coat showed clear progress in that we now had 4 qualified @ 100 yards and 1 @ 200 yards with 3 Shingle Shooters.  O0
Sunday brought all 7 shooters back with the addition of Josh to make 8.  O0 The first Red Coat showed 7 qualified shooters!  We reviewed and by 11:30 the shooters again attempted the AQT.  The lunch break allowed the Instructors to share the stories of Dangerous Old Men and Dangerous Young Women. The afternoon brought 6 more AQT's and the Rifleman's Cadence Drill.  Although no one reached the coveted score of 210, much progress was evident including a Stage 4 score of 49 (2X = 98!).  The Final Red Coat saw all qualify with 2 @ 400, 1 @ 300, 1 @ 200, and 3 @ 100 with 3 shingle shots.
This was a fantastic group with several Riflemen waiting to be polished by some additional practice & persistence.  ~~:) O0 Stick with it - I have your patches waiting! :cool2:

Eagleriver was clicking some, call him out

Not saying we should add this to the curriculum, but I thought it was very interesting at lunch on the first day when we contrasted the aqt to an army "alt c" course target someone had left at the range. Ours is a much more stringent test.

A big thank you to fisherdawg, eagleriver, Taka222, 509gman, and Alaskared for making the long trip to Soldotna and sacrificing their weekend for the cause of liberty. I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend or better people to spend it with. You folks  are appreciated here. Thanks again,              smokepole
