If you had to pick one semiauto 22lr rifle to CLEAN, what would it be?

If you were going to buy one 22lr rifle to be a loaner, and the only interaction you would EVER have with it would be cleaning it, what would you buy?

Setting aside EVERYTHING ELSE-
-Cost
-Commonness
-Coolness
-Ease of use
-Fun of use
-Customizability
-Availability of parts
-Similarity to other rifles
-Any other factor

What is the easiest, simplest, quickest, and least unpleasant semi auto 22lr rifle you have ever cleaned? (I'm pretty sure it's not a 10/22...)

Does anything beat a Sig 522 or S&W 15-22 in this regard?

The only two that I have personal experience with are the 795 and the 10-22.  I think I'd say the 10-22 is slightly more simple to clean.  I'd also say that the 10-22 takedown is easier to clean than the standard 10-22, simply because you can clean the takedown bore properly without drilling an access hole in the receiver.

I can imagine the 15-22 would be a snap to clean, though.

The OTIS cable is a great way to properly clean a 10-22 without drilling a hole.

Good point.  I actually bought a bore snake a little while ago for the same reason.  Guess I sort of forgot about that when I made my earlier post.

Or a very inexpensive, conical, plastic muzzle protector allows you to clean the bore from the muzzle. I keep one on the folding rod that I use for stuck cases and squibs.

That said, cleaning the bore is the least important part of cleaning a semi-auto .22 rifle. The bolt and breech faces, inner receiver, and magazine are where all the dirt collects due to the blow-back action.

True.  In fact, the owner's manual for the Marlin 795 actually says that with normal use, you shouldn't ever have to clean your bore.  That may be, but I still like to give my bores a bit of a wipedown every so often.   :)

But I didn't mean to throw off the thread course with my observation about my preference for the takedown over the standard 10-22.

Some form of .22 AR, for sure.  Either something along the lines of the M&P .22, or a dedicated .22 upper on an AR-15 lower.  No tools required for disassembly.  Push a pin, receivers swing apart.  Retract charging handle, remove bolt carrier group.  That is as far as you would need to take it down for standard cleaning.  You can do it in about 5 seconds.

But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual."

Indiana Appleseed:  Farm Bred, Brass Fed

Lord make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true, and my hands faster than those who would seek to destroy me.  Grant me victory over my foes, and those  that wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be if I only had my Gun; and Lord if today is truly the day that you take me home, let me die in a pile of empty brass.

One screw.
Two pins.
Bolt pops in and out in seconds.
If you want to be lazy set a coffee can of Hoppes in the corner and drop in the trigger group. bolt and receiver (lean the barrel in corner) for 1/2 hour.
Brush through the barrel a couple of times while in the juice.
Blow dry with air, oil and assemble.
Active time under 5 minutes.

Fie on you all with your 10/22s and ARs. <g>

The easiest .22 to clean is the old Browning Semiauto .22.   Barrel assembly pops off with half a turn.  The trigger assembly slides forward and pops out.  Hose 'em off and your done.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -- where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.
