Scope with Tech-Sights?

Hi all,

I have a 10/22 takedown with the Tech-Sights rail sight (http://www.tech-sights.com/rugerrail.htm). I'd like to put a scope on the gun for an upcoming sage rat hunt, but I'd like rings and a scope that allow me to use the iron sights as well; the rail sights are a little bit higher than the normal tech-sights.

Any ideas/recommendations?

My experience with see through rings is they suck lol. Puts your cheek weld way to high and makes it hard to be repeatable.  IMO I would say get a solid set of quick detach rings. Put it on the rail and mark it so you know where it goes every time.  Run the scope when needed and when not leave it in the bag. Best of both worlds.

The issue with the TSR Rail Sights (TSR 200) is that they take up so much rail; there's really only space left for a red dot of some sort, but that doesn't give magnification.

You could try an off-set mount like these: http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Leapers_Accushot_1_Pc_Bi_directional_Offset_Mount_w_1_Rings_High_11mm_Dovetail/2409

Yes, for air rifles, but they're plenty strong for a .22, and the base is short enough it would grab what's left of your rail. You would just need to make sure that which ever scope you used had enough eye relief for the mount, and there's no guarantee it would co-witness with your rear sight.

This.

It's a cute idea that seems to make sense when you're buying them- but doesn't work in practice. As Grunt Soldier said, the issue is cheek weld.

A stock can only provide a usable cheek weld for a shooter at one sight height. If it is good for a set of irons, it will not be good for a higher scope. You may be able to find a workable solution with a cheek weld riser, but it's going to take some trial and error to find the height you need for the scope you mount.

It may be that the stock you are using is already not high enough for the Tech Sights you have mounted. Factory 10/22 stocks are on the low side of usable for the factory sights, which have a very low axis above the top of the receiver. Normal Tech Sights are higher- and therefore require a higher stock comb (or often some padding) for many shooters to use properly. If the railed sights are even higher still, it is very possible that they are significantly too high to be effectively used without some form if riser.
