Unbridled Liberty

On a fine spring Saturday morning, we had three shooters who decided that attending an Appleseed event was more important than either the Knob Creek machine gun shoot or the Louisville airshow.  Thank you for coming out Cassie, Benjamin and Kayla.  This was Cassie's second Appleseed, the first one being at this same range two years ago.  She got back up to speed pretty quickly and was shooting some nice groups.  Work on that trigger finger and a Rifleman patch is in your future.

Benjamin brought his daughter Kayla, and is was encouraging to see a father and daughter with an obviously good relationship.  Benjamin, thanks for taking "good care of the children", and thanks for your service. I will let you tell what unit you are with and where you are stationed, if you choose to.  If possible, I would like an adhesive sticker from your unit to put on my wooden shoot box to compliment the other service/unit stickers.  PM me for my mailing address if you can do that.  Or better yet, bring one with you if you come to the special April 19th Appleseed event next weekend in Wilmore, KY.  It was amazing to watch Kayla's groups instantly shrink once we realized she was cross-eye dominant and we covered her dominant eye.  I believe that a Rifleman patch is in the future for both of you.

An RWVA Instructor would be happy to come and speak to your club or group and present the Three Strikes.  We call these non-shooting events "Libertyseeds".  Here is the website for more information: www.libertyseed.org. You may use the site to request a Libertyseed event, join the RWVA or make a donation.

Get a GI web sling here: http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart.com/?p=detail&pid=10&cat_id=
Lots of dry fire practice, by the numbers, making sure to first go through your Steady Hold Factors.
Practice finding, shifting and verifying your NPOA.
Practice Inches Minutes and Clicks.
Please attend another Appleseed clinic and bring at least two new people with you.  If every 2014 Kentucky attendee returned and brought only two new people, and each of those new people brought only two more, and so on, by the 2016 election we will have had over 20,000 NEW people who have attended a Project Appleseed event in Kentucky!  Here is the 2014 Kentucky schedule:

Help Project Appleseed:
Promote Project Appleseed on your Facebook page.  Kentucky's page is: https://www.facebook.com/KentuckyRifleman
When you shoot a Rifleman score (210 points or greater on the AQT test), become an RWVA Instructor in Training (aka Orange Hat).  Until then, join Applecore (aka Blue Hats) and help at shoots with check in, range safety, and other duties, or help behind the scenes with promotional efforts.  We will find a place for you if you volunteer!

A few ideas on how to help your community, state and nation:
First, start at home: Be a good spouse and parent. "Take good care of the children".  Make sure your household is prepared for natural disasters.
Then, get involved in your community: Be a good neighbor and watch out for each other. Become a block captain for your neighborhood. Organize a neighboorhood watch program.   Build wheelchair ramps for the disabled, and meet other special needs in your community.  Attend school board and town council meetings, or better yet, run for a position!  Get involved in your local Community Emergency Response Team

Write letters and make phone calls about issues that concern you.  I have been informed by people in the know in Frankfort that when the capitol switchboard gets 1 telephone call for or against a certain issue, they multiply that by 14,000!  That's about the same as the number of militia that turned out by April 20, 1775!  And this is for the little ol' state of Kentucky.  Imagine what multiplier they use when you call Washington, DC!  You can be an army of one simply by voicing your concerns and opinions to your lawmakers!

Doc Bugs

Had a great time at the Appleseed shoot this weekend.  Re-learned some stuff I had forgotten (shooting and history) and picked up a few new tools to add to the tool box.  I've never shot with a sling the way Appleseed teaches it.  I'll be adding it to my range training in the future.  Main lesson learned: Ruger 10/22 factory sights = crap.  I'm sure some people love them but I was having a had time with them.  My Daughter Kayla was shooting some tight groups but there was not enough adjustment on the sight to bring her on target.  I will be upgrading them in the future, either Tech Sights or a scope.
We really enjoyed the history lesson.  You'd be surprised how much you forget over the years.  It was nice how it was broke up into three parts.  Wish I would have taken more pictures but I will post what I got.

Thanks for the pics! I totally forgot to take any...
It was a great day to be outside and at the range.
I just wish I that in the pics my belly wasn't so... Pronounced.
Such is life!
