.22LR HP alright for Appleseed?

I understand that "round tipped" ammo is preferred for an event. However, with the current market and knowing what I already have sitting in an ammo can in the basement, would it be alright to bring HP ammo if I couldn't find regular target rounds?

Thanks,

I don't know who told you that we are anti HP or pro RN but they are mistaken. I will always say use the ammo that runs best in your rifle. My 10/22 likes 40 grain RN HV. Other 10/22's I know prefer 36 grain HP SV. As you have the HP I assume your rifle likes it so bring it. We only discriminate against any ammo when it violates the rules of the specific range we are on such as if the club has banned tracers.

Bring what you got and you will do fine.

Oh yeah, welcome to the board.

Absolutely yes!

In the current market, where any ammo is hard to come by, many folks would like to find ANY .22lr ammo at all.

You don't need the potential expansion that hollow point ammo would give you on small game, but as long as it functions in your rifle, it does no harm at all.

In super-accurate target rifles, hollow point ammo may AVERAGE slightly less accurate than round nose ammo, but rifles are individuals, and any rifle may shoot a particular load better than any other.  Also, years ago, hollow point ammo tended to be more expensive.  No longer the case.

Any decent rifle will shoot any decent ammo accurately enough for you to succeed at an Appleseed shoot.  So grab what you've got and come on down!

Thanks for the responses.

I actually got the info from the "what to bring" list. It stated:

* Ammunition: 500 rounds, minimum, of the same type and brand of ammo if possible (if you can bring an
extra 500 rounds in case time allows for more shooting-(better to have too much than not enough)
(Recommended: round-tipped .22LR for semi-autos.)

Emphasis added by me.

Just wanted to make sure. Still have to get my sights and sling and then I'll be ready to go. Thanks again! :)

Thanks for the welcome too.

Thanks, I had not noticed that before. We should clearify that as applying to "shrinkwrapped" rifles. If you have shot it and it works fine with XYZ ammo, use XYZ ammo. If it has never been shot I would recomend 40 grain RN HV (Blazers, Mini Mags...) as they seem to work in just about all semi's. In todays market bring what you have or can find.
