Realistically, it just means that you only need to buy sling swivels, a loop sling, and some kind of sights to get started with a really nice setup. Get familiar with that setup, go to a clinic, and then you'll know exactly what you want to change on your rifle (if anything).

That was my thought. I've ordered the Tech-Sights TSR200 sights and adjustment tool which shipped today. I wanted to go with that for 25M partly to learn iron sights in general and partly as they'll most closely resemble my inherited M1 carbine and help me be better with it (hopefully).

Congrats on your choice of rifle and sights!

When you go to put the front sight on the rifle, of course, you have to remove the old sight.

I've made three Liberty Training Rifles (it becomes a bit addictive....). Here's a little something to pass on if you don't already know.

Ruger front sights are mounted very solidly in that dovetail! Take your time, and take care, when removing the front sight. Once out, installing the front sight is easy. But, the front sight steel of a techsight is rather soft. Take care so you don't strip the threads. Blue Loctite is your friend.

For a sling, Appleseed teaches and recommends the 1 1/4" GI cotton sling. Our instruction for sling use centers on this sling. If you have a different sling, we'll work with you on it. We see a lot of students show up with varying types of slings. That's ok. Bring what you have. but if you don't have one yet, I'd highly suggest the GI cotton sling. They're wonderful aids to marksmanship.

I had in mind to use this one but I see now it says webbing but not cotton so I guess it isn't the correct material, just correct size and looks good for the rifle. Back to the drawing board.

That sling looks pretty cool; get one for Sunday dress, but get one of the GI web/loop slings for utility.
This is what you're looking for, and what we teach around.

I'll just get the one off the store on the theory it's definitely the correct sling and buying it and swivels will benefit Appleseed at least a little bit.
