We had a great weekend under a sunny, warm (some will say HOT) sky.

We had 4 Shooter on Sat., and 5 on Sun.  Three were Youth. All were attentive, worked hard, made good progress, and show lots of promise.

We had 6 Instructors on Sat., and 8 on Sun. With these numbers all the Shooters got the attention they needed, while allowing Instructors to be spelled. (OK, it was HOT). The team of instructor worked well together. Keeping things moving (usually), without getting in each others way.

On Sunday we had a Dan Morgan challenge, firing at 10" balloon at 250yds. (AR's, M1's, 03A3's, and Mosin Nagent's) This provided perspective, was fun, and the balloons lost.

At the end of the weekend a Green Hat was given. This is something a lot of people contributed to. A special thanks to: Buzzworth (with whom I shot my AS's and from whom I got by Orange hat), dwarven1, lupis42, Mike93lx, luv2Bfree, my wife (a big thanks!) and the many others with whom I've worked.

Waiting for the Shooters to arrive.

Sunday's firing line, with improvised shade. We should have thought of this on Saturday!

Great Job! to everyone. I hope to see you all back in September.

Good job, Eric. Guess we need to get the word out better, though - small numbers there.

I did think of it and suggested online that maybe we should look into getting a couple of shelters. I got pooh-poohed by everyone so I didn't bring it up again.  >:(
Unhappy it is ... to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast, and that the once happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?

This was a good shoot. One of the first I have been to, where I don't believe really anything went wrong. Was glad we got all the balloons at 250yds without having to resort to "other" tactics  ;) . Tilyr had a lot of fun, and says he will be out for the one in September. I invited him to the range with my dad and I, so we will be able to hone his skills before September. Congratulations to Goodpiper. I have some pictures, but nothing too spectacular. So I may or may not post those.

Did anybody hit the balloon with irons on the first shot?
Check your drama at the door.

Yep. Some even hit the balloon they aimed at...
Shiny!

More than one!  And with Mosins no less.

You can never be too rich, too good looking, or too well armed.

Mr.Freedom

We would be remiss to not include a blurb about Derek this weekend. Derek kicked major butt this weekend. He finished Sunday in the 180's. He is a future Rifleman knocking on the door without question. Sunday he went back to back on the Redcoat head shot. No cheapies either, dead center on both shots.

Also a big thumbs up to Rebecca who finished Saturday with the head shot. I think Sunday morning she nailed it as well, but I am not sure. Rebecca was the essence of a Rifleman that persists. I know she dealt with some sight and scope problems during the day Sunday, but she refused to let any equipment setbacks keep her from persevering on sending a lot of lead downrange.

Rebecca was very responsive to instruction and most certainly gave it all she had. Just a real pleasure to hang out and shoot with. (nice grammar :slap:)!

Also I thought Andre did a fantastic job running the line, another cool dude to shoot with.

Big time congratulations to Eric on the Green Hat. Well deserved. Eric works his butt of behind the scenes and deserves all the credit in the world for his efforts.

I thought Blake did a fantastic job on the first strike on Saturday, I found the story to once again be quite captivating.

Always good to see Mike and Vicki as well. Just real good people, real good Americans. Real good shooters. Ditto for Jeremy.

I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed myself. See ya on the trail soon. Mike

How many have you inspired that became involved?

Hey guys this is Tilyr, Blake (AmericaStandsStrong) told me I should join the forum so I did. I'm Not overly sure of what to say to all you guys because this was my first Appleseed though I must say everyone made me feel super welcome and helped me out a whole bunch. I've got a Special shout-out for Blake and his Dad because they let me come to the shoot with them, and spend the night so i could both days which just fantastic. I also have a shout-out for Mike (Metalgodz) too because he was wicked cool, after the first day we went up to the 250 range and he showed me how to shoot the AR and then on Sunday when he found out I had never shot an M1 Garand he asked me to walk with him and he gave me four rounds to shoot down range..... All in all I had some great fun this past weekend and I'm glad to say I'll most likely be going to the Appleseed in September and i'm wicked excited.

This was my first Appleseed (and first time shooting a rifle!) and I had an awesome time.  Great people, lots of great instruction, and some great storytelling to round it all out.

Thanks to Mike (MetalGodz) and Vicki (NightJade, a.k.a. my big sister!) for bringing me and setting me up with everything I needed, to Mr.Freedom, AmericaStandsStrong, and aim for the great instruction, to Goodpiper and lupis42 for helping a newbie learn the ropes, and to Tilyr for helping to keep my spirits up whenever I got frustrated.  The high points for me were getting the 250yd headshot twice, plus finding my stride again on Sunday afternoon, getting some good groupings (after having a rough morning).

I'm planning on coming back in September, and have already begun recruiting others to join.  Hope to see all of you back there again.

Guys,

It took me way too long to check the AARs, but I finally got to it.  This was a FANTASTIC shoot and Derek and I are hoping to return to Leyden in September.

I don't want to sound like I'm accepting my Oscar and name everyone who helped because I will forget someone, so thanks to all!  Great pictures, too.
