" The Tree of Liberty needs to be watered by the Fire-hose of Appleseed"

Jacob McRae aka Heavy Tank, 12 year old IIT

It was a hot one here in Sac for this Appleseed. EZ ups did little to ease our pain, as the sun mercilessly scorched Instructors and shooters alike. And yet we pressed on. What our Founding Father's suffered for our liberty made our discomfort look like a walk in the park. This was my first shot at SBIT. NorCal22Gal, BaldDragn, and my crew of IIT's made the weekend run as smooth as butter. My deepest gratitude to you all. You are well loved.

I feel blessed and honored to have Jacob and his sister Danielle (Dani-O) on our line as IIT's. Their younger brother Luke (10) casually gave me history on John Paul Jones following the event. The weekend is one I will not soon forget. They did a wonderful job. We had them initially shadow Instructors, and by the middle of Sunday Heavy Tank was clearing the line as LSO. We missed you on Sunday Dani-O, and you did an awesome job on Saturday.
We had a new Rifleman at the end of Saturday. Phil shot a 236. and is a young man who very well knows what he is about. His persistence paid off.

Sunday morning brought no relief from the heat. Boo. Shooters and Instructors alike hung in there and gave it all they had. L!ppen got a  spot on our line Sunday afternoon, and scored a 228, his personal best. He told us that he now feels that he deserves to be an IIT. Oh, please. He is one great kid, and we have unofficially  adopted him as one of our own. I have watched Jeff struggle to shoot Rifleman for at least two events that I can remember. He was memorable to me, as he wore  multi layers of the darkest fabric throughout the Appleseeds,no matter how hot it got. Ack. Jeff didn't know he shot Rifleman,  as we had the shooters pull their targets and write their names on them, hand them to an Instructor, and post their new AQT's. I always enjoy baptizing those with a score of 210 with the Waters of the North Bridge, and the weather so hot, that surprising him with the water fresh from the cooler didn't even phase him. He went on to shoot a 229 before the end of the day. Next up was Robert, who had served Jury duty with Rod. Of course being made the Foreman enabled BD to 7th step the entire jury. By end of Sunday Robert was getting discouraged , and told me he was thinking of leaving and coming back another day. I talked him into sitting out one AQT and trying again. I was so glad that he stayed. Congrats Robert with a score of 215. BD's best friend in the world, Tazman, brought 3 of  his 6 kids out to the range when he shot Rifleman a few months ago. Since then the three kids have been tenacious about getting their patch. Marissa and Chantel were on the line this weekend. Brother Tanner recently had surgery and wasn't able to make it. Poor Chantel left Saturday night with the flu. Boo. Marissa was one determined gal on Sunday. She made her 210 on the last AQT and we kept it on the down low. BD was the one to pour Waters from the North Bridge on her as I was presenting patches to the other Rifleman. She then went on to take the Orange hat and become our latest IIT. Woot! We are patiently waiting for the rest of the clan, and we have no doubt they will do it as well.

Sunday's history left me in a soggy mess. I cried throughout most of the Dangerous old Men, and Heavy Tank's story of Nathan Hale. I typically do Prudence Wright, and had a hard time holding it together to get through it. When NorCal22Gal and her cast presented Lydia Mulliken, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Even the men 'got some dust in their eyes'.

The event was grand from start to finish, as long as you were not living in my mind. My head felt like a bag of chopped brown paper. SBIT is no easy task, and my gratitude to every one else who made me look good. You are my heroes!

Nice work Jules!
I hope to get up there to work with you and BD and the SAC crew someday soon.

Keep it up, the weather will turn in another 3 or 4 months!

I do regard with horror a state of affairs which would make our country both unready and unwilling to defend its honor.

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Hello Everyone,

I had an awesome first appleseed here in Sacramento this past weekend! I had high expectations of the instruction and it turned out to be beyond excellent and so much more than that! I'm really inspired to take everything I learned and practice, practice, practice.

My Garand was finicky with failures to feed, failures to extract, and "self-adjusting sights" on every single AQT, but we'll see what I can do about fixing those equipment issues before my next AS. Either that or finding myself a 10/22. And hopefully that may help me shoot above a 168  :-\

Congratulations to Jules for an awesome job well done- you looked like a pro. Thank you BaldDrgn for teaching me probably the best trick I've ever seen on how to fix garand extraction problems. Special thanks to Pinbreaker and Polygunner for being such helpful sources of instruction, M1 tricks, Coca Cola, and staples. The far left of the line would have been awful lonely without you two.

I will be recommending this to all my friends and coming back when I can (3 hour drive from Berkeley). That riflemen patch would look good on my "war bag" at the police academy.

Awesome job by Jules!!!

It was toasty, but all the shooters kept going.  It was great to see people improving each course of fire.

It was really great to see people returning to Appleseed, some of them brought friends and family. There seemed to be quite a few young people on the line this weekend, which is awesome.  Our Jr. IIT's Tank and DaniO did a great job working with all students, youth & adult.

Thanks for an awesome weekend Jules.
