A determined group of about 40 shooters showed up for Appleseed in a cold misty drizzle. While the weather was relentlessly miserable all morning and the second half of the afternoon, there was not one complaint to be heard. Though a couple of the shooters had to leave early Saturday on account of not having sufficient warm and rain-proof clothing to prevent the blue-lipped soggy shivers, the rest ignored our pleas to take a warm-up break in their cars and stuck to it in finest Appleseed tradition.

Between bad weather, bulky layers of clothes, cold fingers, and many attendees completely new to shooting, we lost a little ground on Saturday, but made it up on a warm sunny Sunday. During lunch break, the shoot boss and I took five shooters to the 200/300 yard range and did a short KD session allowing the five to zero and shoot for groups, followed by a quick lesson in dealing with wind. Most of Sunday afternoon, our line was called by a new IIT who was, if I'm not mistaken, 11 years old!

We turned out six riflemen Sunday, including one on the very last AQT, and at least one shooter stepped up to take the orange hat. Storms were beginning to surround us as we ended a very successful shoot on the Frontier Sportsman's Club remote Fountain range. Special thanks to shooter Dave ("Ridge") whom I drafted on Saturday morning at the gate to help me with assembling handout paperwork, and who cheerfully saved my bacon.

Thanks for the early write-up, Pete!  It was nice working with you and the others.  The range gravel turned out to be just what we needed, otherwise we would have been up to our ankles in mud!

I told Youngblood you mentioned him.  He really enjoyed being able to help out!  (He actually just turned 12 about 6 weeks ago, so you were close on your guess)

I was happy with getting 6 Riflemen turned out.  It was a great result!  Tell the gang a Frontier Sportsman's Club "thank you" again from all of us.   And also, I know you were just waiting to get your locks back, but thanks for coming back to check on us after the shoot.  I almost needed to take you up on your offer!

Dave, as in Ridge, right?  I know Dave; he's a good guy.  If he's not careful, he's going to end up in an Orange Hat by the end of this season...  ;)
