Weather was beautiful for both days with no wind until the last Redcoat on Sunday. Warm and sunny like the disposition of the Shooters.
What a group of Shooters, We had a full line with a waiting list, and still had walk INS. If you invite friends to an appleseed remind them to sign up ASAP
We can fill up rather quickly. The turn out was absolutely outstanding with NPOA shifts on some parts of the line requiring a dance coordinator
(yes it was a little tight but still enough room for safety). Saturday started quick and with buckets of enthusiasm from the Shooters
(did i mention what a great group of Shooters we had?). The afternoon memorial volley was moving for all the forty two rifle salute was a memory
At the end of day one we were yet to acquire a Rifleman, but the understanding was persistence pays in many ways so back again on Sunday.

Sunday, We were only two shy of the original head count, and still the excitement level quashed any day one aches and pains, lots of weakness leaving bodies.
the Shooters were ready to take on day two, Morning Red Coat, One inch squares, more instruction then on to more AQT's. Madison (AQTMONSTER) bringing
the first Rifleman score of 210 in the early afternoon GO MADDY !!! We had a total of 6 new Rifleman for the day with two orange hats Jeremy for Escondido and Maddy
for the Inland Empire.

Overall an exciting and fun weekend for all.

The range at Corona had changed since the last event. Instead of having 2 split lines going North/South there was 1 solid line going East/West. 38 shooters for day one, 36 shooters for day two.

Grats to our new riflemen (and riflewoman)!
Demnogis, Dem, Brando, B, Moe's son... Any of these work.

A Rifleman persists...way to go Madison (AQTMONSTER)!  It is going to be great to have you and Brass Chucker working the line with us!  This was a super Appleseed.  Nothing but positive attitude from the shooters.  Ken hung in there for the whole two days with his Nagant, my slightly soiled orange hat is off to you sir.  And Mario who got a bit of North Bridge water after hitting 210 with his tube fed.  I'm proud to know you all!

This was indeed a stellar event.....

While there has been much planning that goes into the "big events" like this, as we get more "experienced" in this, we know in our hearts & minds that the 1st rule of engagement will always hold true......"Plan 'A' never survives the 1st volley of incoming fire...." :(
This shoot showed as being "sold out" about 2 weeks ahead of schedule....which is -bad-, because we always get a lot of walk ons.....I really don't want to be the one turning -anyone- away from an AS, esp on Patriots Day....that would just be flat -wrong-! :sos:

Earlier in the week, I had an idea about turning the range around 90 degrees, and going down to the range, talked with the management about it, & was relieved to see they thought it would  be a wonderful idea for this shoot.....the only problem was that they had 14 pallets of bricks piled up on that side of the range waiting to be turned into walls....but they had a rental fork lift.....so while LtDang & Chris C worked on getting string & paint lines run, and backers installed, I merrily ran the fork lift, moving bricks......
5 hrs later, we had a range built sideways!

AIO........where there is a will, there's a way..... 8)

Sat am arrived a bit earlier than I would have liked, but we race the sun, so I ran down to the range, arriving to find a few of my IIT's already there.....wondering why the range looked so "different", but willing to work with it.....By 8 am, most everybody was there, so we started getting equip on the blue line, and welcomed them with a quick intro, and into safety & all those details that make for a safe shoot.
We had some returning shooters whom have been with us before out here, but most had been attracted by local gun show promo, which seems to get the message out there pretty good....solid Americans, doing what Americans do.....celebrate their liberty!! O0
I am amazed at how quickly this group was able to chorus the safety rules, verbatim! Just an early indicator of what a great group we were dealing with.....

Running thru the COF instructing the SHF's, 6 steps, and then into NPOA, we were actually a bit ahead of schedule by noon....squares were being eaten alive, and the group was certainly ready for the 1pm volley "remembrance"......Since we were working with about 42 shooters on the one line, all the instructors had a copy of the COF, and while giving them a countdown, all the instructors were chorusing on the "name....aim....Fire!" command....worked very well, as all participants were able to hear us, even with hearing gear on.  O0

Following the Volley, we broke for lunch, and after they had pretty much finished eating, had a Rev War Vets Assn "Raffle", based on the cards that RW had so graciously done up for us, and a deck of cards I got....from somewhere......we had several new copies of Paul Revere's Ride, as well as another great 4/19 book, as well as the challenge coin & the AS free shoot tickets for the guys.....as we drew a card for each item, the participant who had the matching card came forward to claim their prize.....worked great! ..:..
Then we launched into the 3 strikes, and had many compliments given on not only the presentation, but the depth of detail, as well as the passion for the "Story"......Good things for a happy Shoot Boss to hear about his crew, lemme tell ya!! O0

Following with some more squares to address some various issues the well rounded line encounters, we were ready to shoot our first "Red AQT"......no RM scores, but many were in reach of it, in the immediate future!
What to do?? we still have sunlight, let's do another one!! So we did, and while it didn't offer up any RM, we were able to get a good idea of who amongst us would soon show they "knew well what they are about"......

A last redcoat, and we offered up the standard advice to Tylenol/Advil up, clean their rifles but not their sights, and to rest well......Sunday am would be on us quickly.......

And it was...... :sos:

While only 36 of our original 42 were able to return, we launched into our morning redcoat, followed by a sheet of squares, then a star, and into ball & dummy.....fun stuff for everyone, and a lot of "gremlins" were solved rather quickly......following with a numbered squares for sitting position trouble shooting, and we were ready to go to AQT's again.....got our 1st one done, and Recruiter was grading one from a return AS'r (A Q.T. Monster)....
turning to me (over PhonePrones' objections) for final grading check, I determined it to be an actual 210, not a 211 as Recruiter had added.
I explained to Madison that she was free to continue on in her quest for a better number, as the ice bucket was fairly full, so she should attempt an improvement.......She strove mightily, but that was her high score for the day.....even being an energetic teen still has bodily limitations..... :-\
Our next score was from a gentleman who had been to our AS in Escondido last month, and once he delivered a 212, decided to do the next AQT just as "a lark", and with the performance pressure -off-, shot a real time 238, no 30 cal rule needed.......truly awesome!!

Breaking for lunch, we were treated to a great rendition of Dangerous Old Men.....I can't say enough good things about my IIT's, they simply rock!!

Back into the AQT grind, we began working on simple basics/fundamentals.....listening to what the shooter is complaining of can bring a quick & correct resolution to her problem, and afforded quick intervention styled results....

As the AQT count mounted, so did our number of Riflemen! We ended up with another 4 for the day, bringing our total to 6, from 36 shooters.....not a bad way to spend a weekend, I'd say.....

Our 6 RM ranged from a range of 210 - 238, and several folks who had shot a "low 210+ score" were able to improve dramatically when the "pressure was off"......
Our RM were, in order: Madison (A Q.T. Monster), Jeremy, Derek, Stephan, Brandon & Mario......what an awesome bunch to work with for the weekend..... O0

As we were getting ready to clean up & clear out, the Range Master stopped by to ask if I would mind placing all the pallets of bricks in the middle of the range, so as to expedite the building process the following week....Sure, no problem.....I never leave before it's dark anyway...... :wb:

This bunch truly "got it", and even the visitors that stopped by were super nice folks......It really makes you wonder if we should maybe spend more time at the range, eh?

Lots of great work by the "IE Group", I really enjoy the SB thing with these folks around......if I was trying to do this by myself, it would really suck it out of me quickly.....I'm convinced, you can not have "too many Instructors"...... ::)

Anyway, let me get some pix done for you all, it was only 1 of 98, but it was ours, and for us, -that- makes it special.

you know this AS was acually really special. It was my dad's and mine year-versary. we started AS exactly a year ago on the 18th. and now making riflewoman on the same day made that weekend even better. as usual I had a blast

 ^:)^  Congratulations to ALL  new   Riflemen/women  ;D , especially to Jeremy for upholding the shooting prowess of San Diego County,  Escondido especially, when I could NOT hold up my end of the bargain.  Oh, can you say  SCOPE on rifle at next Appleseed?  For real, I was just guessing at the 4 small targets in stage four; blink my eyes to clear them & try to see that pesky target anew==result just being fuzzies and blurries.  Oh, to have the equivalent of  YOUNG EYES again.  I will be lobbying my Opthalmologist to rec. cataract surgery for my right eye (had left eye done in February) and I VOW  to shoot Rifleman qualifier with IRON SIGHTS...........................

It was heartening to see so many people/shooters show up to this event, youngsters, old timers, newbies, repeats, couples, families......all dedicated to learning the craft of the rifleman and hearing about our heritage. Congratulations to those who shot the 'expert' rifleman's score...persistence pays dividends. Congratulations to those of you who did your best, no more can be asked or given, with time and practice....maybe......
Most impressive....shooting a 7.62x54R bolt action for two days OR being continually pelted by hot 5.56 brass without flinching(I stood and watched)..........my hat is off to you both.  ~~:)
Second place(s).....the 3 of you who had hot brass burns to your face(s) and neck, all treated with BlueFeather's ''Medicated Goo" with amazing results...went from looking like blisters to a flat, dull red.  :)
Honorable mention....the 5 sunburned bright red slathered in lotion and still on the line shooting.  O0
My apologies....to the 4 of you who didn't shoot a rifleman's score, like I expected, and I couldn't figure out why or how to assist you better.   :wall: :wb:

What do u think of when you hear Apple seed?
Some think of Johnny Apple seed.
Others like my self think of RWVA's Apple seed project.
RWVA's project changed my life.
It made me believe that I could actually do some thing.
In a state with tight gun control I still had fun.
At an Apple seed I shot my first rifle,
And I wasn't afraid.
The instructors helped me A LOT,
With their constant support that I could be a riflewoman,
With the steady hold factors, I would have never thought of on my own.
My dad and I would have never known how to use to use a sling.
I probably would have been afraid to shoot a rifle before the Apple seed.
But now I beg my dad to change his plans so we can go shoot.
I guess what I'm getting at is I love Apple seeds.
My first Apple seed I didn't know what a rifleman was.
My second Apple seed I was 11 points off from being one.
My first Apple seed I had an effective range of 100 yards.
My second Apple seed I had an effective range of 200 yards.
In my third appleseed i was able to clear both red coats.
In my third appleseed my dad made riflemen
The fourth appleseed will be my turn
In my fourth appleseed i got my highest AQT score of 192
In my fourth appleseed i got a 172, 173 and a 174 in that order
In my fifth appleseed i just gotta 'shut up and shoot'
finally in my fifth AS i got rifleWOmen
I shut up and shot
I got a score of 210
Now I get a even bigger thrill out of shooting Big guns.
Before I didn't know what a 10/22 Ruger was.
Now I even know what a mini 14 is.
Before they were just guns in my dad's safe.
Now I want bigger ones.
Now I can't wait for the next Apple seed.
All the new friends I've met,
Friends I can actually talk to about stuff like this,
Instead of stuffing it in the closet like it never happened.

Well, just wanted to chime in and say that it was great to be out there with all of you.  What a great group of Appleseeders!  My thanks to LLP and his 'Brilliant Idea' to rotate the range 90 degrees so we could get everyone on one line (no running back and forth between ranges!).   O0

Congratulations to our six new Riflemen\women! . . . perhaps some new IIT's in the wings?  And thanks to all the instructors for some great instructing, history, and team-work.  It was definitely an honor to be back among all of you again.

Appleseed truly is a great way to spend the weekend, helping to make a difference in our great nation, actively bringing the spirit, history and skills of our forefathers to life once again!

If it's Laylopros demo stock, and it looks like it, then its for a Remmington 700.
Not sure if its factory or after market.

Bess, the stock is a late '70's Remmie 700 BDL stock unit......originally, it was my sons' 7mm mag, that caliber failed in action, so it will be in it's next incarnation a 300 Weatherby, w/ a synthetic stock for Mid-West hunting adventures......since it was just "sitting around" the shop when I wanted to make my own "Laser Blaster", it was immediately pressed into service for AS...... :cool2:
