Dateline POP's war room.
Which loosley translated means if you were a shooter on the line you got 1 on 1 coaching.
What a day.
Did we have fun ... HAIL Yes. **) Not quite as bad as Davilla or WSMR, but, just the same it was cold, wet, .308 to .50 cal hail, Windy, Mud,
All a good test of man and equipment.
No riflemen yet, but some good scores on AQT nonetheless.
But, we'll be back tomorrow, and so will the sunny skies.
Be there, aloha.
POP and didactic.

This was my first Appleseed, and I had a HAIL of a good time!

I can't begin to thank the organizers and instructors (including you, POP!) enough for this past weekend. It has truly been one of the most enjoyable events, of any type, that I have ever been to. It's not often you get to re-learn how to shoot a rifle in a weekend from such knowledgeable instructors, and come away with not only the ability to shoot better, but also the ability to know what you need to do next to keep progressing. I know the skills I learned (and the bad habits I've started to erase) will serve me well into the future, and I look forward to participating in many Appleseed events to come.

Again, thank you to everyone who was at this event, it was absolutely amazing. Couldn't have asked for a nicer group of people, both instructors and participants!

Cheers,
David

POP

As ormandj says, it was a HAIL of a good time.  Of course, ole POP here sat out the HAIL in the comfort of a political convention.  voortrekker was SB and ran the line until lunch.  aromatic ran the line after lunch and did a fine job.  For instructors we had voortrekker, aromatic, tnewty, EyeQ, didactic, and yours truly.  Oh yeah, don't forget GOOCH.  Some of ya'll remember Gooch from Davilla 11-08, some from Corpus Christi April 2009.  Nonetheless, Gooch is a good hand, knowledgeable instructor, a hard worker, and always a pleasure to be around.
Sunday morning began Cold but, full of bright sunshine and light wind, so it warmed up fast.  didactic ran the line Sunday morning and we got through 2 AQTs.  This was didactic's reentry into instructing at Appleseed events and, I must say it was a pleasure to work with him again.  He has been out since some health problems in Nov 08 at Davilla 11-08 slowed him down a bit.  After the shoot Sunday didactic told me he was glad we had a small shoot, that it allowed him to reenter and learn the changes since 11-08 without getting confused with a large line.  I concur.  Mr. didactic, job well done.   O0   I look forward to seeing you at many more events.  BTW Appleseeders, didactic's cooking is as good as ever.  Breakfast Tacos every morning, mmmm good.  Thank you, Dean.

We kept the line going at a fast pace, one which the shooters later said they appreciated.  I line bossed for AQTs 3, 4, 5, and 6.  And, EyeQ line bossed for AQT 7 plus the final Red Coat.  tnewty did a great job as left side RSO all weekend.  Thank you Tommy.

And, I can't say enough about EyeQ, Corpus Christi's first Rifleman and Davilla 11-09.  At age 18, homeschooled, he is knowledgeable, sharp, polite, and a pleasure to work with.

NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF.
EyeQ (Josiah) advanced to IIT3, and tnewty (Tommy) to IIT2.  Dean is now back in the groove and glad to have been there at a small shoot to do it.
Me, I'm just bushwacked.  Time for bed.

The most exciting thing about today is that ormandj (Dave), and Everett, both first time Appleseed attnedees, earned their Rifleman patches.

But, even more exciting than that is that both Dave and Everett have expressed interest in the instructor program.  And I believe that Mike, and Laura who were with Dave and Everett as a group also want to enter into the instructor corps.
This is cool because they are from San Antonio and believe lots of folks there will be interested.  This may be the break we have been looking for in San Antone.  They are planning to attend the Fredericksburg shoot.

So, a small but, highly productive weekend.  Two Rifleman Patches, two advancements in IIT Status.  Lots of interest in future Appleseeds,

And, I save the best for last.  Thank you voortrekker.  Thank you for making the trek to CC.  Thank you for doing such a superb job of your duties as SB.  You have much to be proud of here in CC.  Last year we only had one Rifleman score, EyeQ.  This year we have had two Riflemen and, this is only the first event of the year.  Whoaa!   O0

Anyway, Thank you Brett for making the trek to our fair city.  We appreciate your service to Appleseed and to our country.

And, finally Scout, We did not make it to the beach this event, although I was planning for that.  There is a range on the beach which I am working on.  I bet you would sign up for that one.

Gotta hit the rack, early comes real early.

Everett here.

I had a blast out there, and was surprised at the difficulty level.  I thought I was a pretty good shot before, but was immediately humbled by the first redcoat course.  Many thanks to Pop for the use of his 10/22, without which I would likely have fallen into "unqual" bracket on the AQT.  I'll be performing similar improvements to mine.  The entire program was well thought out and executed optimally.  Every instructor was very professional and knowledgeable, and also fun to hang out with.  Grats to them all!

Am looking forward to attending more events and carrying the message to future Riflemen.

Who had the camera?  Lets see some pics! ;)

To protect the identities of the innocent, no cameras were allowed on the range. You will just have to take our word for it  @).

I was wondering how you got so many instructors down there over spring break. This range isn't on South Padre Island is it?  **)

Spit, I guess you figured it out.  And, alonso opted out for Davilla. tsk tsk.   ++)

You see with all the border problems down in the Brownsville area/ South Padre Island, all the Spring Breakers came to Corpus including GGW.  What a deal.  Needless to say, therefore, NO PICS.  None that we will publish anyway.  As soon as vootrekker gets rested he will tell the official story. ^-^

Thanks for posting Dave and Everett.  These two guys are Corpus Christi's two new Riflemen.  You will see more of them soon.   O0

And, Dean is back ... and, his morning tacos are better than ever and everyone enjoyed his story telling.  So, look for more of Dean on the trail.

Well, that's all for now.  Thanks to all attendees and instructors for helping to make this a successful event.

EyeQ

Hail and high water!  We had them both this weekend.  But riflemen persist right?  You bet they do!  Hats off to the shooters who persisted with us throughout the weekend and to David and Everett for scoring Riflemen!  Great job guys! :~

To all the other shooters and instructors that came Thank you!  We can't do these shoots without either of ya'll.  Look forward to seeing all of you on the trail again ;)

Josiah
I can see the the bullet impacts on your target and so can you, but can you understand what they are telling you?  Targets talk, but it takes EyeQ to understand what they are saying.  Appleseed taught it to me and now I want to teach it to you.

Alonso opted to stick with a dedicated group of people finishing up the Boot Camp.  That and to avoid the heap full o' ribbing DoubleLL and I would have given him for bailing. ;)

Well Starfox, we definitely missed alonso.  It is, however, only fair that we loan him out to Davilla and Sherburne once in a while and even Alabama.

But, I gotta tell you that voortrekker did a whizbang of a job as SB.  Shooters and instructors alike are ready for him to come back to CC anytime.

Hope you and LL are doing well (I shoulda been a poet instead of POP).  Thanks for posting.

I was at this Appleseed this weekend for my first time out. I wanted to take a quick moment to thank all of the instructors that came and shared their precious time and knowledge with us. I learned a lot about marksmanship and patriotism and will do my best to share my new knowledge with anyone I can get interested. Hope to see everyone again at the April Fred shoot.

There's one of my Boot Camp Brothers 11-07, Didactic, I'm very happy he's back with us!  He's giving the Dangerous Old Men speeches in this picture.

RIFLEMAN!!!!   His FIRST Appleseed event!

Ever seen one of these?  Me either.....interstesting.....when I think I've seen them all....looks like practical kit though.

RIFLEMAN!!!!   His FIRST Appleseed event!

Dave and Everett, I look forward to working with you as an Instructor, pick a date where you want to instruct and PM me so I can get you on the Instructor roster.

Brett out.
If YOU are thinking, WE are winning.

 voortrekker, Fantastic PICs. Thanks.   O0
And, mgriffin, you and your lady will be welcome in FBurg April 17-18.  Your first shoot you will always remember as being special.  but, you will thoroughly enjoy Fburg.  There will be lots of folks, and probably only about as many instructors as were at the corpus shoot you attended.

Brett,  Dave and Everett will be there at FBurg.
On the Rifleman Radio show this evening Everett noted that he earned his Rifleman Patch on the 7th AQT.  We actually ground through 7 AQTs Sunday afternoon.  Congrats Dave and Everett.   O0

Dang, cool as all get out.

Have to say I love you guys. Pop, Scout, Voortrekker, OG, Paul, BigD, LabRat,  all you scalliwags. All you others too that I can't think of your names right now.

I still like y'all even though y'all are all ugly as sin. Enough to make a gay turn straight. heh.

Good pics voortrekker. Heck you should see the pic I have of OldGrunt falling asleep during the Second Strike of The Match story.

Heck, he had 'Teddy' snuggled up next to him. heh. I wish I could find that pic I'd post it.
