I like it. MSRP = $625. Any guesses on a street price? $450? I'd probably buy one...if I can ever get a CT-legal one!  >:( >:( Irony of ironies about CT - we have some of the best rifle manufacturers in the world in this state and they can't even sell some of their products to the state's own residents.  !@#) !@#)

The S&W M&P15-22 is more suitable for Appleseed because:

1) It's $125 cheaper (based on MSRP)--plus add to that the cost of putting sights or optics on the Ruger!

2) It has an adjustable, dual-aperture rear sight and an adjustable A2 post front sight.

the SR 22 not cheap MSRP is $625.00   :o
however this will pay for itself in ammo price savings alone over time (maybe two Appleseeds in the NE)   ;)

I know  I know you can buy two standard LTRs for the price and loan them both out to help forge more Rifleman (I have and laon out four loaners)
And yes you can and should buy a CMP M1 for that price I did (can't feed it 5,000 rds for $260.00)

but it is cool   8)
:~

it has auto bolt release   :)

true however you can share mags with the rest of the 10-22 on the line
I made my own for $317 not counting the rifle

I have to vote "Tart".

It looks neat, but it's all cosmetics.

The only ergonomics the Ruger SR-22 has in common with the AR are the pistol grip & the collapsible stock, with no controls other than the stock adjustment being like the AR.

As an AR trainer, I agree with Nevada Smith on the M&P15-22. Other than no forward assist, the M&P 15-22 has identical ergonomics to the AR - safety, mag release, bolt drawbar, sights. (Is the bolt release the same as on the AR, Nevada Smith?)

In regards to the MSRP of $625, that's before getting an optic for $100-600 more. The Ruger doesn't come with any sights, & appears the only thing  you can put on it is a scope/optic since there's no way to mount tech sights, & nothing to mount a forward flip-up sight.

If actual prices are that much, you can build at least two LTRs based on either 10/22's or Marlin 795's (with Tech sights, an extended mag release, 1 extra mag each, auto bolt release, GI web sling & 1 1/4" swivels), or one M&P for the same price.

I have to agree. TART!

For that money they at least could have put a better bolt hold open feature (I HATE that little tab) and no iron sights? What were they thinking?!?  %)

for an AR trainer, you can't beat the CMMG .22 drop-in conversions.  Would a dedicated upper/rifle be a little more accurate?  sure, but the conversion will shoot 4moa and then some.  your cheapo practice rifle doesn't need to be a total tack driver.  and nothing mimics your controls and optics like shooting the VERY SAME RIFLE, just with the bolt conversion in.  and at $200 or so, they cost about what a regular 10/22 would.  just make sure you don't use one with a 1/7 twist barrel... you won't be happy with the results.

I dunno. Money aside (and I know that's a big one), I still think it's the bee's knees.

If your goal is to make it an LTR, then yes, better values are out there assuming it will street for around $450.

There's something to be said though about the 10/22 action in a different form. You can do all the nifty trigger/hammer jobs to it, share mags as Buzz mentioned, and swap out the barrel with one from the myriad of after-market makers. As for flip-up fronts, Ruger makes available a full-length picatinny rail.

I agree it was silly for Ruger to leave off irons - I guess they just meant for the user to slap on an optic.

Again, if cost were the only issue, I'd be hesitant (and I am). But there's no denying it's a neat platform.

Yes.

(Side note: I would not recommend using it on a chamber flag.)

Y A W N N N N ...

Save your money and buy the real thing. If you want to save money on ammo, keep the LTR. I don't see any gain here except esthetics.

Ruger's newest offering looks like a turd to me.  An even bigger turd than the Airsoft COLT 22 LR AR15.

Ruger is starting to "get it" but they're not quite there yet.

Folks, please try some different ammo with your conversion kits in your AR's if you're not satisfied with the groups.

I shot my (new to me) 20" AR 15 this weekend with my new CMMG .22 conversion kit, some Remington hollow points that have been in the attic for 25 years and iron sights and got some 1" , five shot groups.

My eyes are getting to the point where I had trouble finding my glasses when I took them off and laid them down to shoot a group (needed them when we walked up to the target to see the bullet holes).  The front sight is this wavy, fuzzy thing between me and the target.

That makes two AR's I have that shoot more than adequate 25 meter groups with 1 turn in 9" barrels and a .22 conversion kit.  Maybe I'm just lucky (in rifle purchases) but I'd rather do some ammo experimenting (means I get to shoot!!!) than accept the internet gospel that you have to have a dedicated upper with a 1 turn in 16" barrel to shoot nice .22 groups.

As for that new Ruger?  It sort of looks like an AR but it doesn't have the AR controls so how is it "training" to use your AR?

Your money, do what you want with it.

If it weren't for the sight issue (wtf?), I could spend a week alone with this rifle.  Tell the wife I'm in jail or got jury duty (each as believable as the other).  Heck I already got the magazines fallin out of my pockets.  Don't even know where they all are right now.  Some of the ones I have say nickle or b9 on them.  What's that about?

No front sight tho...  I turn my back.  Screwing one onto that little space of picatinny rail you can screw onto the handguard?  After I buy the rail?  well, it's something, but I'm tired of Ruger ignoring me.  What! A ten inch sight radius - that's not a rifle!  That's not even a CARBINE!

I'm a bolty anyway.  pshaw!

ps - if anybody gets one...  give me a week-end, just one week-end.  i even got a scope for it.
