Tech Sights for Mossberg 702

Larry at Tech Sights sent me an e-mail that they had tried the Tech Sights on a Mossberg 702 and they worked. They used the Marlin 60/795 set with a shorter front sight screw.

I have not shot the Mossberg 702, but on examination it looks a lot like a Ruger 10-22. About the only difference I can spot right off is the magazines.

This little rifle runs about one half the price of the Ruger. Now that Tech Sights has sights that will fit, this looks like a good alternate LTR.

I know Tech Sight supports Appleseed. Maybe someone at HQ should contact Mossberg and see if they would be willing to include Appleseed info when they ship their rifles?

This is good news, as i just received a 702 for Fathers day O0 <:)  Douglas maybe you could contact them about doing that, then we could get him some material (National schedule,Blue press and other material) if he agrees.  AzRon

we have had a couple of 708's show up on the line lately and they seem to shoot well.
Don't come with swivels.
Anyone tried to install any yet?

Sam, I am in the process of building an LTR on a Mossberg 702 Plinkster.

Mine has a Williams Foolproof Target Knob Scope Rail rear sight and has the old fake flash hider/front sight assembly from my M14s installed on it with a US castle nut.

I have not got the sling swivels on it yet, but will do that by installing shaped wooden blocks in the foreend between the webs and in the buttstock, shaped to fit the void they go in.  Then they will be epoxied and the sling swivels installed.  I would rather find a pair of front swivels from the M14 but have not found any yet, short of tearing them off a stock.  The same process can be done with an Uncle Mike's set.

If someone will tell me how to post pictures, I will post three admittedly poor pictures of it to date.

Front sight.

Rear sight.

Rifle.

Maybe THAT attempt will work, the last 5 or 6 have not.

My son has a 802 plinkster (bolt action). We installed the sling swivels as usual and then poured liquid steel in around the stud screws (release agent on the threads). 2 bricks fired with sling tension and no loosening.

The Marlin Tech Sights worked but the top of the receiver is rounded on the 802, so I had to mill the top flat. Once installed the sights worked great. No idea if the 702 is flat on top or rounded.

Our only issue with the Mossburg is that the stock has a LOT of drop, a cheak piece is just about mandatory in prone. Oh, and the bolt on the Mossburg makes any other 22 bolt action feel as slick as an Enfield. Even after polishing it is still a bear to operate fast. Though my son did manage a 190 with all shots fired before switching to a 10/22 to shoot Rifleman.

On the plus side, his trigger on the 802 is outstanding, it would cost a bit of change to get the trigger on my 10/22 as nice.

I've contacted Mossberg and left two messages. To date I have had no reply. So I called again and learned that the lady I have been trying to reach is this morning giving birth! It is little wonder that she has not returned my calls. ;D

Anyway, I've been asked to send an e-mail as too what we would like to have Mossberg insert into the box when they ship their 702 Plinkster rifles. The folks at Tech-Sight include a lot of Appleseed info with their product, but I have not found the sheets they provide with the their sights on-line.

Who knows where the sheets are in PDF format so I can e-mail them to Mossberg?

Do we provide the sheets to Tech Sight? Who folds them?

I my mind, we would need to get them to Mossberg in a form that impacts their process as little as possible if we expect them to pass out our literature.

I need some input as too what Appleseed is willing to provide.

Hey douglas, I am happy to see you have embraced the "field promotion" concept here at Appleseed!   O0 ;D

You have a PM inbound.   ;)

Douglas,

While you are conversing with them, why not ask about factory installed sling swivels, or, at the very least, inserts or hard points in the stocks to install the sling swivels in?

Also, it would be GREAT if we could get them to offer a Youth version of their 702 & 802 rifles like Savage does with some of theirs.  The youth model would fit LOTS of kids and work fine for many women also.

Cutting off the composite stock in a home gunsmithing situation is NOT an easy task, but the FACTORY could pull it off easily!

They have VERY GOOD prices on them, if they made a version to fit women and kids in addition to the adult male demographic they could sell many more of them, the weight on them is GREAT, anyone can hold one up for a long time.

Just some more food for thought.
