First of all, I would like to thank our hosts. We were welcomed by the Spann Family Farm—what great hosts! They not only opened their wonderful range to us, but also their home. We couldn't ask for better hospitality.

We had 30 young patriots come out on Saturday. This was an American Heritage Girls event, so most of the participants were young girls, though we also had a couple of young boys and a few moms join us. The kids ranged in age from 7 to 16, with 17 of them under the age of 13.

All but a couple of the participants were beginners. Because of that, we shot relays, which worked quite well with such a large group of new shooters. The pace was slow, but it was exactly the right pace for this group. Our main goals for the day were safety and fun.

Everyone showed up with great attitudes and a willingness to learn, and they really soaked up the history. Dee delivered an awesome Strike 1—she tells the strikes so well! Yours truly covered Strike 2, and gunjunkie wrapped it up with a captivating Strike 3.

I have to say that the time monkey won this battle, but that was okay—it was what worked best for this group. The initial hits count showed that we had plenty of opportunities for improvement, and we did see improvement from all shooters as the day went on.

Although we didn't get a ton of rounds downrange, we accomplished our mission—reminding these young shooters about our heritage, why we are able to be out there shooting, and helping them appreciate the liberty we enjoy today.

It was a hot day, and by the end everyone was tired, but I think they all walked away happy to have spent the day with Project Appleseed.

A special thanks to all of the instructors who showed up to help out.  Everyone did their part (and more) to ensure that we had a safe and fun event.

It's not about perfection -- it's about progress!!

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan
